One of the biggest reasons that making Gremlins 3 will be a mistake is that Gremlins 2 was already a big mistake. The second installment of the film was quirky and funny in some ways but also got so out of control that it became something uniquely crazy that the director didn’t seem to have a handle on. The gremlins had the chance to create absolute havoc within the building they took over and instead played most of the time as is their wont. Yes they did cause mayhem and did manage to kill some people, but for the most part they’re not as dangerous as they’re made out to be. They can be mischievous, mean, and utterly nasty, but for the most part they don’t harm people unless those people in question manage to move just a little too slowly or allow the gremlins to have their way.
But a third movie would be a huge mistake, even if it is already in the works as the title makes it sound. What else is there to do? Billy already knows what to do and what not to do with Gizmo, so there shouldn’t be any more accidents on his end. The only thing that could possibly happen would be that Gizmo would somehow get lost and be found by those that have no idea what to do with him. Or perhaps Gizmo would become a gremlin finally and turn out to be the worst of them all. That would be an idea, but it would still be a poor one since so many people that loved the original movie would probably riot if Gizmo was allowed to become the big bad of the movie. It would certainly bring an end to things since let’s face it, Gizmo is where every problem has originated from in the movies.
It might not be his fault but his little furry body is the one that’s been popping out the little fur balls that have eventually transformed from cute, cuddly Mogwai into nasty, tough-skinned gremlins. If those in charge of the film are thinking at all it would be to finish this off and let it rest for good, but it would still be a huge risk and one that might alienate a lot of fans. But then again if you really think about it Gremlins has been allowed to rest for a long, long time now. The actors look so different that the time line would have to be seriously adjusted to show just how they’ve changed and developed. And after all, how long does Gizmo’s kind live?
These questions and more will surely go into making a third movie if one is in the process, or at least we can hope. The idea of making another one after seeing how badly the second one flopped is kind of cringe-worthy since the story seems like it might be okay to go forward with, but it’d also be like walking through an active minefield just hoping you get lucky. If they do manage to bring it to theaters hopefully it will be something new and at least respectful of the first movie.

Your article is terrible. First, it implies that the Chris Columbus has no imagination. Second, they could easily wipe out the timeline of the 2nd movie.. hence correcting the “mistake” of The New Batch. As an avid Gremlins fan and collector, I can say I enjoyed the 2nd movie. Was it as good as the first one? No.. hardly.. but it has its place. A third movie would hardly be a big mistake and it is a movie that many true horror enthusiasts, are on the edge of their seats, waiting to see.
Hi and thanks for your comment, now allow me to reply. I did not imply the director has no imagination, simply that the story is kind of played out. Yes, you’re right, the next film could be a reboot, but in order to do this it would need to be Gremlins, not Gremlins 3. Plus, if you enjoyed the second movie then so be it, that’s your prerogative and I won’t say you’re wrong. The reason I believe it would be a mistake is that for a story that could have multiple arcs that would take it in many different directions, it would have needed to continue onward after the second one instead of being left behind for so long. Perhaps you should create a petition for these ‘true horror enthusiasts’ to sign in order to push through the idea. Thanks for the added traffic, and Merry Christmas.
