Did the ‘Infinity War’ Trailer Reveal the Soul Stone’s Location?

Ever since it was revealed that Thanos — the purple guy who first showed up at the end of The Avengers — was going to be the final boss of the MCU, speculation has abounded concerning the location of the scattered Infinity Stones: reality-bending singularities that he weaponizes into the Infinity Gauntlet.  That’s pretty much what he’s known for in the comic: as the megalomaniacal galactic conqueror that uses the Gauntlet to become omnipotent and strike down anybody hapless enough to get in his way.

The first stone introduced in the MCU was the Space Stone, which appeared in the first Captain America as the Tesseract: the blue cube that the Red Skull used to outfit Hydra with futuristic weapons.  Second was Loki’s scepter from The Avengers, which housed the Mind Stone that Ultron later used to create Vision.  Next was the Æther: that bubbling red liquid that Malaketh tried to plunge the universe into a second Dark Age in Thor: The Dark World.  The Power Stone was used to nearly commit planetary genocide in Guardians of the Galaxy.  The Eye of Agamotto, Doctor Strange’s iconic amulet, was revealed to house the Time Stone.

That leaves only one stone — the Soul Stone — unaccounted for.  And with only six months to go before Infinity War hits theaters, the question on everybody’s mind is where is it?  As it turns out, the Infinity War trailer may have shown us exactly where it is.

While watching the Infinity War trailer, did you find yourself wondering why most of the action seemed to be taking place in Wakanda: a technologically advanced but fiercely isolationist African nation?  Before the events of Civil War, virtually nobody had so much as heard of it before.  The destruction of Sekovia in Age of Ultron convinced the Afro-futurist nation that they couldn’t afford to stay in the shaodws any longer and their king, for better or for worse, brought them onto the global stage.

Did the ‘Infinity War’ Trailer Reveal the Soul Stone’s Location?

Yes, it’s where Steve and Bucky (and presumably the rest of their outlaw Avengers faction) ended up at the end of Civil War and you couldn’t do Infinity War with only half of the team.  That’s a given.  But why is Thanos — the guy who is single-mindedly focused on gathering the Infinity Stones and becoming a living god — there, especially when the Mind and Time Stones are elsewhere on the planet?  He has zero reason to seek out fights with everybody’s favorite captain-in-exile and his ex-soviet buddy, especially if they’re off in the corner not hurting anything.

As it stands now, it’s a safe bet that the final stone — the Soul Stone — is in Wakanda and will doubtless play a major role in the upcoming Black Panther film.  It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that the Stone is either the source of their incredibly advanced technology or some of the more fanciful aspects of the Black Panther character (probably both).

At any rate, keep your eyes peeled in February for anything that might tie into Infinity War, because you can bet that they’re going to use their last push into that movie to hammer home to coming conflict.
