It’s so easy to get wrapped up in one role that Marie Avgeropoulos has been perfecting for the last few years and forget that she’s been around for a little while. The thing is that she’s still fairly young and has a lot to offer, but it’s very true that she has become enmeshed so deeply in the role of Octavia that it’s hard to remember that she’s been in several other productions as well before she ever took on the role and became the wild woman that came to hold such a prominent spot on her current show.
Sometimes a person finds their niche and sticks to it for a while.
5. She played Octavia on The 100.
Back in 2014 when Octavia was first introduced it was easy to not think too much about her since she was Bellamy’s sister and not much else. Once she acclimated to life on the ground however she finally started coming into her own as she toughened up and found her own purpose. Once Lincoln, the native she had taken up with, was killed however, her love for her own people began to wane, and her immersion into the culture of the Grounders was all but complete.
4. She did all her own stunts on the show.
Octavia’s not afraid to get down and dirty with anyone as she’ll gladly go toe to toe with most people if they so much as look at her wrong. Having been raised in space might have made her a bit soft at first, but she’s learned how to survive and do some spectacular things. The fact that it’s Marie doing the stunt work is amazing since the character of Octavia isn’t all that timid and loves a good challenge.
3. She’s not really into scifi.
That seems a bit ironic really when you think about it that a woman who excels in a role such as this isn’t into science fiction and fantasy. Yet she’s still flattered when people ask for her autograph and liken the story of The 100 to Lord of the Flies and other classic stories that it follows after. It is a job after all and it’s something she likes to do so regardless of what she’s into she can still perform just fine.
2. She likes spending her time outdoors.
Despite her time spent as a model and an actress she has a very active outdoor life as she likes to fish, hunt, and do various other things that might paint her as a tomboy but still stand as her main interests. Nobody’s likely to call Marie a full-blooded tomboy without taking a look at what she’s done as a model and an actress, but she does have something of the wild in her it would seem, which is why she’s so perfect for her role.
1. She’s had an extensive career before The 100.
Marie started her career in 2009 and has a healthy list of movies and TV shows she’s contributed to since then. So it’s fair to say that by the time she came to the role of Octavia that she’d been around the block a time or two and knew what she was doing.
She was definitely given the right part when she was cast as Octavia.
