10 Things You Didn’t Know about the Movie “Loveless”

The dangers of a divorce and what it can do to children is found to be quite poignant with the film Loveless. The parents within the film are simply cold and argumentative towards one another and never seem to consider what their continual arguing is doing to their child. In fact it’s safe to say that the father’s newest child that he’s about to have with his girlfriend could be treated just as coldly as it’s described in the synopsis. No matter how it happens however, divorce is one of the many things that can lead a child down the road to harm, in one way or another.

Being an adult means thinking of others first, though some people tend to miss that.

10. It was submitted to the Academy awards.

It was considered such a success that those with the authority decided it was worthy of the nod to be considered as one of the films that would be included in the awards.

9. The director started forming the film upon a visit to the United States.

This was in 2015 when the director began to formulate the story during a vacation. He wanted the story to allow people to relate to it even though it was entirely Russian.

8. The main point of the film was to show the dynamics of a Russian family.

There’s nothing about this that’s not Russian, but the feel of the film is something that a lot of people can understand and relate to, particularly those that have been through this kind of ordeal.

7. The story was originally started in 2012.

Sometimes it takes a story a while to develop since ideas have to be kicked around for a while and concepts have to be drawn up in order to make everything come together.

6. The film had no financial support from the national government.

Due to the government not caring for the director’s previous film, Leviathan, he was forced to seek out international support in order to make this movie.

5. It was given to the Cannes Film Festival in 2017 for competition.

It was believed that this film was one of the few that had a chance of winning the Palme d’Or, the highest honor and greatest award in the entire festival. That’s a huge vote of confidence.

4. It has an amazing 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s kind of hard to accept a good or bad rating from this site simply based upon the fact that they really play favorites and like other critics aren’t unbiased.

3. It won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Just like it sounds this prize is given out by the jury at the festival and is kind of a big deal.

2. The movie was originally intended to be a remake of the movie Scenes from a Marriage.

It was supposed to be a remake of this but the director found a way to make his own story and run with it.

1. The film was shot entirely in Moscow.

There’s nothing that’s even remotely un-Russian about this movie as it was filmed entirely within country.

Divorce is an ugly thing, but the fallout can be so much worse.
