How is “Long Island Medium” in Its 11th Season Already?

Theresa Caputo has built a life for herself and her family by working as a communicator for the dead. You read that right. She’s the star of TLC’s Long Island Medium, and as ridiculous as the idea of talking to the dead may sound like, the show has been successful since it started in 2011. It’s currently in its 11th season, and many of us are wondering how the show has even lasted this long. Could it be possible that Caputo can actually do what she claims she can? We’re still not sure if we can believe that, but we believe that we know how her show’s managed to stay on this long.

In 2015, Caputo was under investigation for fraud. The grounds for the accusation started with reports that claimed many of Caputo’s clients to be unsatisfied with the work and reading she gives. The truth is it’s difficult to get away from such accusations if you’re working as a self-proclaimed medium. A fraud complaint website also claimed that Caputo uses a lot of her resources to investigate clients before she actually does a reading.

The show uses negative publicity like this to propel viewership even more. They twist everything so it gives people something to look forward to. Maybe the next episode will finally show the truth about the show. Maybe it won’t. But you’ll be surprised as to how long viewers can be strung along to actually find out what the answer is.

In addition, the TLC network has done an excellent job in making Caputo relatable to a lot of people, despite of her job being as unique and odd as they come. She’s a working mom who’s just trying to make a difference in her family’s life after all. Shortly before season 11 premiered this month, news reports came about that Caputo has split with her husband. There are even video clips of the couple separating leaked online. What are the chances that all of these really happened just before the premiere of the show? It’s just another publicity stunt, and it’s a stunt that’s as obvious as ever. The show’s ratings hit a high in season 3, but it has slowly gone down since then.

There’s a good possibility that the show is slowly starting to see the end. Although we can’t predict the future, we know that nothing lasts forever in this world. But we can tell you what we think is the primary reason why this show has lasted this long.

The show has established an emotional connection to its viewers. It’s as simple as that. It may be a connection that’s based on false assumptions and false realities, but it’s a connection nonetheless. Most of us have lost someone dear to us in our lives, and what Caputo offers is something that many of us probably hope in our hearts could be true. If there were a way for us to do the impossible, wouldn’t we do it? Caputo offers just that–she offers a way to do the impossible. Whether she is truthful about her capabilities or not, it doesn’t really matter to viewers at this point. It’s the hope that matters and the hope that feels good. It’s also that same hope that keeps viewers tuned in every episode.
