When it comes to news programs on cable television channels, the competition is fierce. Recently, Rachel Maddow, who hosts The Rachel Maddow Show, became the most popular cable news show on TV. In fact, she got better ratings than Hannity, which has long been considered a pillar of CNN’s news reporting. This is enough to make people pay attention to the fact that things are changing. Not only is the Rachel Maddow Show out-performing everyone else’s, the network she is associated with is also doing better than most of the other cable networks that are dedicated to news programs.
There are a lot of reasons her show might be doing better than others. First and foremost, she doesn’t have a problem investigating things on a deeper level than most of these other shows ever even think about doing. That is a hallmark of her character. Whenever she decides to do a piece on a particular subject, she makes it a point to investigate every angle of it in order to get to the truth. The last thing she’s interested in is merely providing some so-called news piece that barely scratches the surface and leaves more questions than answers.
Obviously, people like this. The American public has become very jaded when it comes to news programming in any capacity. People typically feel like they’re being lied to, whether it’s intentional or not. They don’t feel like they’re getting the whole story on much of anything and they like it when someone finally starts proving to them that they’re doing their homework. In addition, Maddow tells it like it is. It doesn’t really bother her if what she has to say is going to offend someone. While she’s not out to cause any problems, she certainly isn’t going to sweep the problems that already exist under the rug, either.
Another reason for her success is that she has a tendency to be a little edgier than other news hosts. This is something that a lot of younger people like. It shows in the ratings, where she is extremely popular in the demographic that includes people 25-54 years old.
Last but not least, Maddow is easy to identify with. She seems real when many of the other people in the same business appear to be less than trustworthy. She knows her business and she knows how to get things done. She isn’t afraid to tackle the bigger issues, not to mention the ones that seem to cause the most difficult questions. With that being said, these are all questions that people have a right to ask and Maddow is determined to get to the bottom of things.
In a time when it is seems very difficult to know who you can trust when it comes to the news, Rachel Maddow seems to be a cut above all the doubts and questions. As long as she keeps doing what she is doing now, it seems as though she should be able to write her own name in the history books when it comes to standing out above the crowd when it’s needed the most.
