Legends of Tomorrow: Legends on Obamacare. Mallus Free From Prison.

Legends of Tomorrow

Multitasking can be efficient, but at the same time, it can also be inefficient. You can either get more done or have more to deal with. In this week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow, the team tackles two anachronisms at the same time to stop Mallus. The question is, will their efforts be for naught?

When Rip called the Legends and told them that Grodd is going after Barry, I immediately thought of The Flash much as Wally did. What I didn’t expect is that there’s another Barry. This Barry is none other than former President of the United States: Barack Obama. To say I was mind-blown is an understatement. Kudos to the actor who played young Obama!

The team saved the then future POTUS but came face to face with another problem. Amaya took the time ship at the end of the last episode in an attempt to protect her family and her people. Nate and Wally journey to 1992 Zambesi to talk sense into her. Though that only resulted in Nate hitting the “Screw History” button and helped Amaya change her future. It almost worked had not Damien Darhk double-crossed them in his endeavor to save Nora from Mallus. I mean, I understand that he wants to rescue his little girl, but he shouldn’t have, metaphorically speaking, stabbed the Legends in the back.

While we’re on the subject, it’s rather heart-warming to see a villain like Darhk have a heart. He’s like Diego from the Ice Age films in a way. He started out evil and then sided with the good guys in the end. I teared up a bit during the scene where he poured his heart out to Sara, telling her that without love, people like them would be forever trapped in the darkness. Perhaps there’s hope for him yet. Though I have a feeling that once this Mallus thing is over, he’ll go back to being the Damien Darhk we all love to hate.

In the end, Mallus is free from his time cage and took to the skies, preparing to wreak havoc. His appearance means the death of Nora Darhk. At that moment, my heart went out to the villain once again. He tried to save his daughter from the time demon only to have the latter take her away from him. The part where he spoke to Nora when wielding the Death Totem was emotional to watch. I don’t usually root for the bad guys, but I sincerely hope that he will get his daughter back someday and maybe give up this world-domination notion of his.

My heart also went out to Director Sharpe. She confronted Rip about her past as one of many clones, and she was still reeling from it throughout the episode. When Sara told her that she loves her, Sharpe told her through tears that there is no “her” to love. Sorry, got something in my eye.

Final Thoughts:

I facepalmed when Ray spoke about his various interactions with Nora with her father standing right beside him. I snickered at the death glare Darhk was sending the scientist-inventor. Ray Palmer, you and your double entendres.

Using what usually appears in the opening credits as an episode title. Very meta (feel free to let me know if I misused the term).

Mick is a fan of The Lord of the Rings. Who knew?

Rip’s comment about how John Noble’s voice is the same as Mallus’s. Yeah, they’re the same person, Hunter!

John Noble playing himself playing a character in a movie and a show. Words cannot describe how epically awesome it is. It’s also surprising to hear him speak in his natural voice. He usually covers it when portraying characters either on the small screen or the silver screen.

Never thought I’d listen to Ray say “Run, Barry, run!” to someone who isn’t The Flash. You, show, are the greatest.

“We’re on Obamacare.” Good one, Captain Lance!

Sara talking to young Obama about her dilemma and that she misses him before wiping his memory. We all do, Sara. We all do.

Sara literally stabbing Damien Darhk in the back. Wow.

Can’t believe that the John Noble plan worked with Nora. I thought she would figure out that it’s all a rouse given that she wasn’t possessed by the demon like she usually does when Mallus wants to talk. I also can’t believe that the typically composed Damien Darhk would be so nervous carrying out the plan. First time for everything I guess.
