A Brief History of the FYF Fest

The FYF fest is a festival that’s been held since 2004 at the Los Angeles Exposition Park in Los Angeles, California. The meaning of FYF is basically F Yourself Fest, a rather interesting if derogatory name for any festival. People seem to enjoy it though since mass numbers attend this three-day festival in order to enjoy the atmosphere, the culture, and the music. It’s not as big as Coachella or other festivals but it is a way for people to get out and have a good time, and it has it’s own night market so people can take a break and get something to eat while they’re enjoying the festival.

Concerts and festivals have certainly changed throughout the years and it takes someone that really enjoys being crammed into a large space with hundreds if not thousands of people all around them to really get into it. Of course so many of those people are there to enjoy the show that they might not even look around to see who’s close to them. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you want to see it. From the lack of reports of pickpockets or any other illicit activities though it seems like a lot of people might actually just come to have a good time and don’t bother to cause any problems. In a crowd this size you could definitely see the propensity for trouble if someone decided to cop an attitude with another person. Some of these places would become giant mosh pits if things got that bad, but thankfully there usually is security around these locations that are paid to break up fights and escort troublemakers off the premises. After all people are there because they want to listen to music, have fun, and just enjoy themselves. They don’t go there because they want to start trouble.

The average concert or festival is going to have a few malcontents that are bound to get a little rowdy, but a lot of times security will handle it, and even those in the crowd that don’t want to cause trouble. It’s never really a good thing when the crowd has to take matters into their own hands since that’s how a lot of problems can start, but when security can’t get there in time it’s bound to happen. Something about a festival that basically states in no uncertain terms what to do with yourself seems to be the kind of attitude attractant that might cause such trouble as a rule, but honestly people just want to have a good time and listen to good music. Causing trouble at a gathering like this is a sure ticket to be kicked out one way or another.

There are four stages on which live music is played during the FYF fest, and bands that are both new and haven’t been discovered as well as bands that are well-established come to play for the people and enjoy themselves. All in all it looks like a good time.
