What We Know about Upcoming Dramedy “American Woman” So Far

So far what we can tell about the upcoming dramedy known as American Woman is that it’s going to be a reminder of the way things used to be. Alicia Silverstone is going to be playing the role of Bonnie Nolan, the all-American mother that was the norm back in the days when women’s lib was just getting started and equality was still something that no woman could honestly expect. Since then obviously things have changed, but during this time women couldn’t do a lot of things on their own and the world was a much different place. The world as we know it now was changed back in those days as women started striking out on their own and becoming the proud and independent people that we see now. In truth there were already women like this many, many years before such a social revolution came along, but the going for such women was hard indeed and didn’t always prove to be as uplifting as the movies and TV shows make it out to be.

Bonnie Nolan is the kind of mother that on the outside appears sweet and perfect in many ways, but on the inside she’s as fierce and capable of making bad decisions and proving that she doesn’t need anyone as the next person. When she leaves her husband however the gloves come off and she begins to decide who she wants to be and how she wants to live her life. The life of the average woman back in those days wasn’t always easy but in throwing off the yoke of expectations that were cast upon women they at least started to see a different life that was available to them. Women throughout history now have been subjugated to a certain extent in just about every era, but as of now it would seem that they have finally found the voice they always wanted and have used it to great extent.

There’s no need to get into the argument of whether women have gained all the rights they want at this point or the kind of equality that they deserve. This show is going to be geared towards revealing how just one one woman goes on to shape her life after discovering her own voice and how to best use it to her advantage. With two children and a husband she no longer desires Bonnie is going to show the world just what a woman’s voice can do and how a woman can shape her own destiny it would seem, all while having a good time and making a few bad decisions along the way. As TV shows go it’s bound to be another voice among the many that support women and their ever-expanding need for equality in the world, which is still debatable at times but is still very important when it comes to discussion.

Women are equal in many ways and greater in some. Perhaps this show will depict that in a way that people can get behind.
