If the first Drive film came up short on explaining just what happened to the Driver perhaps this parody of the film, Drive 2: The Uber Years, will be able to tell you just how things ended up for the tough guy. Somehow it seems like he might want to go back to his old gig no matter how dangerous it was. Uber drivers definitely don’t get enough respect it would seem, especially since they’re providing a service that people want. Anyone ever notice that any service job seems to be looked down upon for some insane reason? Those people that work these jobs don’t always get paid that well and yet they’re treated like second-rate citizens.
In this case the guy that’s driving Uber is the kind of person that could easily stomp a person’s lights out and yet it seems like driving Uber has taken all the verve out of him, all the venom that made it possible for him to fire off at people when they angered him. Maybe that’s what too many years in a service job does, or maybe the parody is hilarious because it kind of strips the Driver of all his tough-guy attitude. Can you imagine an Uber driver going off on someone because they were rude? It’s happened, but not to the extent of taking a hammer and bashing them over the head or breaking their hands. You should be able to reason that some drivers have probably fantasized about something similar to this, though in all honesty that would be the end of their time with Uber.
But after watching so many clips of Uber drivers and their horrible fares it’s easy to see how any driver would be ready and willing to lay the boom down on those passengers that think their stuff doesn’t stink and they can say or do anything they want just because they’re paying for the ride. It might sound crazy but a lot of Uber drivers probably would love the ability to yank open the back door and pull their worst passengers out by the hair, perhaps yanking some of it up by the root in the process. It’s a very aggressive and not very helpful thought but it’s one that might bring some peace to people, including the actor in this clip. But how low would Driver have to fall to really get into driving Uber? Of course given his history dealing with a few difficult passengers might not be a big deal, but it would still be kind of annoying to tell the truth.
Really though it would be like performing as a pro athlete and then being busted down to the pee wee leagues where the stress doesn’t go up but the amount of garbage that needs to be dealt with does. You tend to hear so many people stating that Uber and Lyft are some of the best services around but then you hear the horror stories and think twice. Driver would have certainly fallen on hard times if this was what he was doing in the sequel.
