It is amazing to me how we sometimes forget that celebrities are human too. They have the same challenges and struggles that the average person has, with the exception of issues associated with money – at least in most situations. Therefore, I am not surprised that singer, Lorde, has come out on Instagram to tell the world that she is keenly cognizant of the fact that she has a problem with acne. The truth is that at age 21 she still has hopes that it will clear up on its own. Anyone who has ever suffered from acne understands how frustrating and difficult to treat this condition can be.
While Lorde admits that she is frustrated with the acne, which she has struggled with for years, she admits that she is even more frustrated with all of the people who want to offer he advice for how to cure her condition. The songstress says that she has tried virtually every treatment that you can imagine and none of them have proven effective. It has obviously become a somewhat overwhelming for her as all people seem to want to talk about is her acne, which can be frustrated from someone who is talented enough to win a Grammy Award.
She has had people tell her that she needs to try moisturizing her face, use plant-based scrubs, and she even had someone suggest that it was due to not properly cleansing her face. While it appears that most of these people mean well, I don’t think that they are considering the negative impact their suggestions may be having on the star. She has actually had someone ask her if she washes her face or not. According to Lorde, the acne is a direct result of genetics.
While some people might take her video on Instagram as striking out, it appears to me that it is more about relating to people who deal with this condition on a daily basis. She assured her followers who are suffering from acne that there is hope and they will eventually find the solution to the problem they are having with their skin.
Not to focus on the negative for too long, Lorde posted another video about her plans to grow out her dark locks, which is obviously a significant part of her identity. She says that she wants to grow them out as long as she possibly can, maybe even to her knees. I am not sure how that will work out, but I am all for her growing out her locks to fully express who she is at this point in her life and career.
I think people have to really consider that she is just 21-years-old, she has a lot of maturing to do as a person and singer, and the sky is the limit to what she can accomplish at this point. My hopes are that the pressure does not get to her. One of the obstacles that often rears its head when people are introduced to success and celebrity at such an early age is the pressure to be what everyone else wants you to be. Hopefully, she remains true to herself and she understands she is beautiful no matter what.
