Hollywood Road To Success: Denzel Washington

The clip is supposed to show you Hollywood Road to Success starring Denzel Washington, which would be an explanation of where he came from and where he started out. But it would seem that someone either deleted the video for one reason or another or possibly took it down to be a bit petty. So kick back and I’ll at least give you the rundown of just how Mr. Washington came to grace our screens during his long and very impressive career. If you don’t already know he’s one of the most influential and talented men in Hollywood, and through his movies he’s shown us just what he can do.

Let’s start with the fact that when he was 14 his parents divorced and his mother sent him a way to a preparatory school in New Windsor, New York. He actually credits this as having saved his life since the path he was on at that time would have either killed him or seen him locked away behind bars. The friends he was hanging with at that time were apparently caught up in the streets and had he stayed, he would have been too. After high school he attended Fordham University where he earned a B.A. in Drama and Journalism. After deciding to get into acting he attended graduate school at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, CA before he returned to New York with an intent on beginning acting career.

He went into theater at first where he excelled before going into television on NBC’s St. Elsewhere. From that point he started showing in movies and eventually won an Academy award for his role in Glory. From that point on his career was rolling, and there was no stopping it. He’s been in a wide variety of movies and has starred with a large number of celebrities that have all seen his dedication and drive to an extent that they can admit is impressive. Denzel doesn’t so much throw himself into his roles as he does slide into them easily and take them over as needed. For each role he’s calm, cool, collected, and doesn’t slip up very easily if at all.

If you want to talk about range the man is the epitome of someone that can go absolutely berserk, be entirely untrustworthy, and then turn around and be your best friend all in the span of a single a movie. Think about Training Day, no matter if a lot of people thought that it was a snooze thanks to one actor or another. His character, Alonzo, could talk a good game, one of the best in fact, but beneath that calm veneer was a cold-blooded killer that would do just about anything to survive. Now think about his role as the head coach in Remember the Titans, and think about how he was hard but he was fair. Lastly, think about his role in the underwhelming but highly interesting film The Book of Eli. He was a traveler on his way to somewhere important, he didn’t want trouble, but if bothered he could become absolutely lethal. This man has more talent in one hand than many do in their entire bodies, and it’s because he knows how to put it to the best use.
