One of the most prominent Scottish actors of the 21st Century, Iain de Caestecker, is known for several roles that he has played in television and movies. The actor played in Shell, In Fear, and Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River, among other films. However, his most famous role is probably as Agent Leopold Fritz in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The talented actor’s portrayal of this character is a very loyal interpretation of the original Fritz. In fact, his acting was good enough to win TVLine’s Performer of the Week in 2015 (and get another nomination in 2017) as well as a SET Award the year before.
But who is Iain de Caestecker, really? What is his story? If you want to find out a little more about the Scottish actor, please read on to learn about Five Things You Didn’t Know about Iain de Caestecker.
He Started Acting at 12
His first official role in a film was in the comedy horror movie, The Little Vampire. He played a boy named Nigel in this initial foray into the world of paid acting. His performance in the movie also brought him a few more roles, such as on the UK programs Coronation Street and Lip Service. His young start didn’t slow him down — but he didn’t skip out on college for it either. He holds a degree in drama from Langside College.
He Was in a Music Video
In 2013, Iain de Caestecker appeared in a music video alongside Gabrielle Alpin. The video, set to the song “Please Don’t Say You Love Me” by Gabrielle Alpin, features de Caestecker as the boyfriend of the starring character. This video was released at around the same time that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and was a good little side role for the actor to gain some more recognition (not that he needed it after the Marvel show).
He Voiced a Video Game Character
In the videogame Assassin’s Creed III, Iain de Caestecker provided his vocal talents for a character called Fillian McCarthy — the thief brother of a Templar seductress. Though this character does not make an appearance in the main story, and is instead regulated to multiplayer, he is still a pretty cool character. This is also a good credit for de Caestecker to have on his resume.
He Likes Italian Food
In one interview, Iain de Caestecker was asked about his favorite food. However, he mentioned that he doesn’t really have a favorite food. He does, however, eat Italian food the most often out of any other type. He also mentions a fondness for Twiglets — wheat-based snack generally not found in the United States that is often compared to the taste of Marmite.
He Made Films for Fun
When the actor was just eight years old, he and his brother decided to make films for fun. They had a video camera, and would even write out scripts for their horror films. Later, they would have de Caestecker’s twin sister (or another willing victim) pretend to be dead. The kids would then film a whodunnit style film surrounding these circumstances. Of course, the propensity for acting may be because he attended drama classes at around the same time that he was making these creative little films.
