Gumball just did a Tribute to the Golden Girls and It’s Awesome

The tribute to the Golden Girls might be the most interesting thing to be seen on The Amazing World of Gumball yet.  Having watched the show just a few times I’m starting to wonder about the future of cartoons and where they might be headed. Thankfully Disney still keeps that great and colorful facade of the Mickey Mouse cartoons up and running, and has started leaning on other shows to teach morals and acceptable values to kids, but then there are shows like this. Granted, the Golden Girls on Gumball was a pretty interesting and awesome clip since it nailed each one of them perfectly and without error. But the show itself is something just, well, WOW.

Cartoon Network has been going fringe for a while it seems and I never really noticed. The entire premise of the show isn’t bad but the subject matter sometimes makes me cock my head in confusion right before I turn the channel. In some ways it seems less than appropriate for kids and then somehow it comes back to those innocent moments that help define it as a kid’s cartoon again. It’s almost though the network is trying to make parents shrug their shoulders and say “meh, it’s not that bad” when it comes to whether they’ll let their kids watch it or not. It’s not a Rick and Morty-level cartoon to be honest but it’s still kind of crazy.

Putting the Golden Girls on the show adds a bit of a eye-popping confusion to the mix since it’s not really understood just why this would happen unless you manage to read the story board or script. They do still have those don’t they? I don’t know how many of you reading ever watched the Golden Girls but at the very least the writers must have since they got the attitude of each woman down perfectly. Rose, Dorothy, Blanche, and Sophia were all rendered just right and their different mannerisms were so well done that it was kind of eerie to see them again.

Blanche was always the party girl, which for a woman her age might seem odd since you would think that at some point a person would slow down just a tad. But not Blanche, oh no. She was always here and there and doing whatever she could to remain as young as she possibly could. Then there was Rose, who turned out to be one of the best parts of the show in a very odd way since her character was smart enough but still naive enough to make everything she did and said kind of humorous if not downright funny. Dorothy of course was the critical cynic, always speaking out against whatever she didn’t believe to be true and doubting anything she couldn’t easily verify. Sophia however was my favorite Golden Girl because she said what she wanted, did what she wanted, and if someone didn’t like it they could take their opinion and shove it.

That’s the group the way I remember them.
