Scorched Earth is a movie that will be coming out on February 2 of 2018. Like its name suggests, the setting is an Earth that has undergone an environmental collapse, which has caused enormous casualties. As a result, even though it has been generations and generations since that happened, human civilization remains tenuous, which is to be expected when Scorched Earth is being marketed as a post-apocalyptic movie.
With that said, human civilization manages to be functional enough in the setting to support bounty hunters, which happen to include Gina Carano’s character Attica Gage. Said character is seeking to claim the bounty on an outlaw named Elijah Jackson, which is why she makes a choice to infiltrate his gang for the purpose of getting close to her target. Unfortunately, a chance encounter causes her to start rethinking her priorities, with the result that her mission becomes much more complicated in the process. Summed up, Scorched Earth will be combining bounty hunters with post-apocalyptic narratives as well as a touch of science fiction, meaning that it could interest those who are fond of either one of those elements in isolation.
Could Scorched Earth Be Gina Carano’s Breakthrough Movie Role?
It will be interesting to see what the effects of Scorched Earth will be on Gina Carano’s career. For those who are unfamiliar with her name, she is a former mixed martial artist who went on to become involved in a wide range of movies and TV shows. For example, she was the star of 2011’s Haywire, which was a spy thriller that managed to earn points for its energy as well as its lean, mean narrative. Furthermore, she was one of the main cast members on Fast & Furious 6, where she managed to earn a fair amount of critical praise because of her action scenes. Finally, it should be mentioned that Carano played Angel Dust in the first Deadpool movie, which was notable in that she was actually asked by the director Tim Miller to play the role.
With that said, while Carano has been in plenty of movies and TV shows, it can be said that her career has not hit the heights of fame so far. As a result, it will be interesting to see whether Scorched Earth will be the movie to raise her to that level or not. Unfortunately, while the upcoming movie does have its selling points, neither the trailer nor the rest of the marketing materials that have been released so far suggest that it will be something extraordinary.
Further Considerations
Still, a trailer and some marketing materials are far from being enough of a basis to make reliable predictions on. As a result, one should not assume that Scorched Earth will manage no more than a middling performance at the box office but instead wait for further information to come out once its release is imminent. With that said, unless something new and unexpected comes out, it is probable that middling results will be its final outcome, particularly since its selling points are not exactly unique in an age that is filled with sci-fi movies and TV shows.
