Eventually all films will be given the Honest Trailer, but for now it’s Return of the Jedi. Admittedly the Star Trek franchise seemed pretty dire up until this film was made. Plus, the edited versions that added in CG additions and the strange add-ons that kind of made this movie a little awkward are a highly debated aspect that people locked on years ago. In short a lot of people didn’t like Return of the Jedi to begin with, but once it got edited again and again it only continued to alienate people. In all honesty I actually liked this movie to begin with and still do, but without the heavy edits and add-ons that make it a little silly.
There’s a reason why people love The Empire Strikes Back, it keeps the serious aspect of Star Wars without sacrificing any of its dignity. Return of the Jedi was in fact a great movie in many regards but that’s if you happen to let the other stuff slip past your memory. Of course I also think that Honest Trailers get a little too critical at times since they tend to hammer the details over and over without any seeming sense of remorse. I get it though, why would they since this is what they’re going for, an honest and practical look at movies.
Hardcore and diehard Star Wars fans have been down on different aspects of Return of the Jedi for years, namely the Ewoks. The fuzzy little critters have never gotten a break no matter that they managed to get two of their own movies, a Saturday-morning cartoon, and a comic book. Some fans contend that there’s no way that they would be able to beat the Empire. You know, because they’re savages, on their own turf that they know, using tactics that the Empire doesn’t understand and attacking them from various angles that are hard to defend in open territory. But hey, they shouldn’t be able to take down troopers and their transports just because they know how to fight and defeat bigger and tougher predators, right?
I do hope you’re seeing the sarcasm in there.
Throughout the movie there are a lot of things that make sense when they’re pointed out, like Leia somehow knowing that she and Luke were connected. This makes the fact that she kissed him in Empire Strikes Back just flat out creepy. Then there’s the fact that Harrison Ford didn’t seem all that enthused to be in another Star Wars film after the last one. Heck if you look back at how hard it was to get him to sign on for The Force Awakens you’ll understand just how badly he didn’t want to do it. Mark Hamill was on board and eventually so was Carrie Fisher, but Ford was adamant about not coming back until he finally gave in.
As of now though it’s looking like all of the older cast members are going to be finally taken out of the franchise anyway, so one can only wonder when Luke and Leia’s number is up. I won’t give out any spoilers but if you watched the trailer for The Last Jedi as much as I did, then you already know that something big is about to happen.
