‘Tis the season to let Amazon take your money while you take away National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation display set. If you don’t remember this movie then I feel bad for you since this is a Christmas tradition. A lot of families can’t go a single Christmas without watching this at least once and laughing like loons each time their favorite scenes come on. Obviously the actors have moved on since this movie and some of them might have even passed away, but the joy and the hilarity of this film are enough to keep a cozy memory of the days when this was the number one Christmas movie and a great add-on to the saga of the Griswolds.
A lot of the best scenes are represented, though a couple would be a little difficult to replicate so you’ll have to use your memory and imagination. But otherwise these are a faithful representation of the movie that is still so loved and always dragged out during the Christmas season so that it can be enjoyed at least once if not more. Watching the Griswold’s traipse through the holidays while dealing with in-laws and unfriendly neighbors is a part of the holidays are all about.
All pieces are available from Department 56 on Amazon.
The rolling tenement on wheels is more like a rolling landfill. Once upon a time such a rig would have been a luxury ride but after Eddie and his brood have been in it for a while the thing looks like it might have been parked at the local dump for the last few months and then hauled out for a family trip.
I’m not sure I want to know how sore everyone’s fingers must have been after digging this thing up roots and all. Clark loves to go for the gusto in everything, but it would have been nice if he’d eased up a bit on this one.
Eddie is like the bane of Clark’s existence and yet he can’t do much about it because Eddie is still family, regrettably so at times.
That might be a fun ride if it didn’t involve going what looks like Mach I down the hillside and blasting through whatever’s in his way. And to think, the stuff he used is the stuff that he’s marketing. What kind of things might go flying if someone used this in their home?
Despite the improbability of the movie it’s still awesome since it’s like a live-action cartoon. Chevy Chase in his prime was extremely funny.
Did anyone else cheer when Clark sent the tree through his neighbor’s upper window? I know it’s mean but they kind of deserved it. Maybe.
There are airports that use less lights than the Griswold house, and probably don’t shut the power down in a nearby town either.
Ever notice how when Clark yells for Russ he’s already right there? And I’m sure a lot of us have had to deal with this little issue of having to untangle the lights once or twice.
Say what you want but this is a classic Christmas movie and will remain so for a long time.
Hallelujah, holy- ah you get it.
