Fight the Power by Public Enemy was originally made for Spike Lee’s movie Do The Right Thing, a movie charged with racial tension and one of Lee’s greatest films ever made. It took off without much prompting and became a rallying cry for people all over the nation as Public Enemy’s career grew and grew. Even today it can be heard now and again as a reminder of times that were every bit as tense, and much more so, than the world of today. The need to be defiant and in some ways dangerous is present in every aspect of life but it usually falls to those that want to create a change to really start the rallying cry. This song has been at the forefront of American culture when it comes time to want to do something about the injustices of the world and create some truly needed change.
Plus it’s just an awesome song.
5. Atomic Blonde
I had no idea there was such a thing as a triple agent before this movie came along. Double agents seem to be a common enough thing in spy movies but a triple agent is like a triple threat it would seem, bound to betray just about everyone they come across. Plus, to pull this off they must have ice water in their veins and a heart that pumps gasoline instead of blood.
4. Star Trek: Beyond
It definitely wasn’t one of the best Star Trek movies but it had a great soundtrack and that works in its favor. When Scotty hears the music playing he has no idea what it is, not much of a history buff that Scotty, but he accedes that it’s not as distracting as it could be. Points to the female alien for liking some of the best music to be found throughout the galaxy.
3. The Boondocks
There’s no doubt that this series is geared for adults with the content and language it presents. But it does bring up some interesting points about culture and how different people interact with one another in very different situations. Some people tend to swear that this show is one of the best things ever made but despite being interesting it takes a few negative views of various issues and characters.
2. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
Flint is the type of scientist that needs just one breakthrough to finally distinguish him as a genius and push his genius onto center stage for everyone to see. Well, he does that, but it doesn’t quite go as he planned as the island he lives on is suddenly set upon by a relentless food storm that was caused by one of his inventions. It was a good try though.
1. Do The Right Thing
You would think being from the same neighborhood would be enough for people to get along, but that’s not the way it is. When there are too many differences between people to reconcile things tend to pop off quickly and don’t ever find the type of resolution they really require for people to walk away satisfied. Doing the right thing isn’t supposed to leave people happy about it though.
Fight the Power is an awesome song, if you haven’t yet you should listen to it.
