Lucifer: Chloe Does Lucifer. Dr. Martin Gains Perspective.

Lucifer

People sometimes try too hard to be someone that they’re not. All in the name of attempting to be attractive to others. In tonight’s episode of Lucifer, the facades and masks disappear, letting the real selves shine through.

The opening scene almost had my Deckerstar heart going. I thought that the hug they shared during the last episode led to something more steamy. Imagine my shock when it turned out to be a cozy night in playing Monopoly with Trixie. Although it’s still a tender Deckerstar moment nevertheless so I’ll let this one go for now.

Our favorite crime-solving duo takes on a compelling case this week as they solve the murder of Kim Jones. She died from severe blunt-force trauma to the head. Or to use Ella’s words, big-arse blunt-force trauma to the head (BABFT). A break in the case made itself known when it revealed that a dating application’s CEO, Mack Slater, argued with Kim the night before her unfortunate end.

When the time came to go undercover to flush out the killer, I thought that Lucifer would dive in head first. Then again, the episode title is Chloe Does Lucifer, so Detective Decker is to go undercover as Lucinda. I would’ve gone with Lucy, but Lucinda’s nice too. It reminds me of the Good Witch of the North from The Wizard of Oz.

It was somewhat awkward watching Detective Decker try to channel her inner Lucifer at the mixer. I snickered when the fallen angel commented on her laugh as “a demented witch on crack.” Also, her trying to flirt with her finger in the martini glass and dragging the olive across her face? Awkwardness central! I do have to applaud her for taking out her earpiece and decided to be herself. That, and for wearing the bullet necklace. Shame she had to take it off before heading to the club. I’m sure she put it back on after so it’s all good, Luci-boy, don’t be sad!

I also applaud Amenadiel for offering Dr. Martin some perspective as the latter plans her ex-husband’s memorial. The good doctor was trying to be someone she’s not to cover up the fact that she feels no remorse over Reese’s death. All she cared about was her brush with death and that her beliefs had been turned upside down after becoming a “celestial insider.”

After the failed undercover sting, we found out that the killer is Mack Slater, the CEO. On top of that, he’s not who he appears to be. It turns out that Mack is just the face of Top Meet and Kim is the real creator of the app. Mack killed Kim to protect the app’s exclusivity when Kim wanted to make it more accessible to users. Guess there won’t be a Gentleman’s Weekend in Vegas after all, hmm, Luci-boy? Oh, and sorry about Esther, who is also being someone she’s not.

The words that Detective Decker said to Mack before the guy pulled the trigger is very accurate. Everyone deserves to be loved for who they are, not who they pretend to be. Maybe this will encourage a certain Devil to tell his detective the whole truth and perhaps get Deckerstar off and running. Fingers crossed!

Random Thoughts:

Kudos to Charlotte Richards for helping break the case wide open and helped catch a killer. That and for taking a job at the District Attorney’s office. The pay’s not too high, but at least she’s helping put bad guys away for a change rather than defending them.

I laughed when Trixie told Lucifer to pay her with real money for the top hat piece rather than with Monopoly money. Detective Decker’s right, she slammed you. Oh, and the scene where the detective and Devil role-played with Barbie dolls? Priceless! I also loved the part where Amenadiel just slid into the scene at Lucifer’s penthouse like in a cartoon. Well done, show! Well done!

Another amusing moment was when Esther wanted a selfie with the handsome cop who turned out to be Detective Espinoza. Lucifer’s comment about his un-cop-like clothing is more to self-reassure than fact. Yeah, just keep telling yourself that, Luci-boy. Though you do wear unicorn well I have to say.

The security system for the penthouse is inspired by Home Alone. Wow. Just. Wow. Also can’t believe Lucifer took the shoe piece. When did he do that anyway?
