In terms of talking about his new special via trailer, Equanimity, Dave Chappelle couldn’t have picked a better show to channel than Stranger Things. If you’re wondering just what equanimity means it’s a state of calmness, composure, and keeping an even temper even in difficult situations. Does the clip make a little more sense now? Dave Chappelle, who’s been through a few difficult times in his life, is coming out with a third special this year for Netflix, and it’s going to be a double feature. It will air on New Year’s Eve so people who are not out and about can possibly cue up their Netflix account and tune in. There’s a good chance you’ll get one heck of a good show.
Chappelle has been a funny character and a controversial one throughout his career for many different reasons but the great thing is he’s always come back to the comedy. It’s been his bread and butter since he came on the scene and so far it’s done pretty well for him. He’s not the average comic that will just make you laugh and feel good about the show, he’ll lay some truths in there as well while he’s smiling. It gives the effect that he’s still putting on a show but he wants you to listen in between the jokes and to think about what he’s really saying. Chappelle is the kind of guy that seems to like to think despite the craziness that went on during the earliest years of his career.
As to the trailer, well, equanimity doesn’t seem to play a real part until Eleven manages to focus and blast one of the men that dragged her into the cell with the heavy door that just about puts him through the wall. The best part however is when Dave steps into the doorway with a big grin on his face and sets himself before saying “Do me. Do me next.”
Yeah, that’s all Chappelle.
Using the Stranger Things trailer was an odd choice but it turned out to be the best option available, plus it’s one that would easily get everyone’s attention. More than that, it’s also a show owned by Netflix so the chance of being able to actually use it was a lot better than trying to use something else and get the rights to it in time to shoot the scene.
Three shows in a year’s time seems like it would take a lot of work to put things together, especially given that Chappelle would need a venue, time to promote, and a crew that could set things up on very short notice. Maybe I don’t know enough about the comedy business, honestly I don’t, but it seems like a lot of this stuff takes time and a lot of effort to push through. But then again maybe there are things that the studio can expedite some of it and work around such time constraints in an effort to put together a show that people will want to watch.
