Ever since the Spice Girls split in 2000, there have been rumors about whether the group will reunite and perform together again. Recently, there have been new rumors that suggest that this is finally a possibility and that all five girls will reunite in 2018. According to the gossip, some of the projects under discussion are a new compilation album and a television special.
The news of this reunion was first revealed in The Sun newspaper. It has suggested that the girls have been in secret talks since the summer and that it was Mel C who has spearheaded the reunion of the former bandmates. Previously, it has been Victoria Beckham, also known as ‘Posh Spice’, who was the one standing in the way of a reunion as she was reluctant for the bandmates to get back together. However, rumors suggest that she has finally given in and agreed to the group reforming in 2018.
Although specific details of the group’s reunion have yet to be revealed, it has been confirmed that Simon Fuller will be working with the girls on these new projects. Fuller is the band’s former manager.
The Spice Girls were at the height of their fame during the 1990s as they formed a group in 1994 and disbanded in 2000. This hugely successful girl group reunited for a tour in 2007 and 2008 and also released their ‘Greatest Hits’ album in 2007. They then reunited for a second time in 2012 to perform live at the London Olympics. This was also a way of promoting ‘Viva Forever!’, the Spice Girls musical. This was the last occasion in which the group performed together as a five-piece band.
Since the Spice Girls las performed as a group, they have each gone on to establish successful careers as individuals. Mel C, also known as Sporty Spice, has enjoyed a successful career as a solo artist, as has Geri Halliwell, also known as Ginger Spice. Baby Spice, Emma Bunton, has released solo singles and worked as a television personality. Scary Spice, Mel B, has also released singles as a solo artist and worked as a judge on the UK television singing competition ‘The X Factor’.
Possibly the most successful of the girls is Victoria Beckham who initially released singles as a solo artist before becoming a fashion designer and entrepreneur. She is also famous for her marriage to former England soccer player David Beckham and the couple together are known as the ‘Beckham Brand’ due to their wide range of business ventures.
Fans of the Spice Girls will have to wait until next year to find out exactly what the women have planned for their comeback and if this is a temporary or long-term reunion. One thing is for sure, if the group does decide to perform live or do a tour, fans will be fighting to get hold of tickets to see the the group who are famous for promoting ‘girl power’ do their thing on stage. Likewise, any album the Spice Girls release will no doubt reach the top of the charts.
