10 Things You Didn’t Know about “When Harry Met Sally”

When Harry Met Sally is one of the most iconic romance movies in the history of film and set the bar for another generation of rom-coms that would come after. One of the most iconic scenes in the film is the one that tends to get remembered the most simply thanks to the public’s secret but still public love affair with all things sexual that can happen in the public eye. Yes, THAT scene. The film isn’t shy about the difficulties that occur during the time when two people meet and when they eventually find out that they have something in common to the moment when they finally realize that they’re in love, and come to find out just what that means.

So how well do you think that you knew the movie?

10. The interludes throughout the movie are real love stories.

The interludes are more akin to interviews asking people when they got together and when they knew that it was true love. In a sense it’s almost like a way of showing people the vast difference between real love and infatuation.

9. In the first draft Harry and Sally didn’t end up together.

This might have made the movie a lot different if the two of them had gone their separate ways at the end. After all the title kind of makes it seem that they’ll end up together.

8. The primary actors weren’t the first choice for the lead roles.

A few other actors were tapped for these roles but were unable to take them due to scheduling conflicts or personal issues with the script.

7. Molly Ringwald played Sally in a theater adaptation of the film.

It wasn’t much to talk about really since it didn’t go much of anywhere. The theater version was a little drab and didn’t have the same impact.

6. Billy Crystal and the director have been good friends for a long time.

It’s easy to get along with a friend on set than it is with someone that you might know but don’t communicate with that often.

5. Billy Crystal did a lot of improvisation throughout the movie.

His improv managed to make Meg Ryan laugh quite a bit, though it at least made for an interesting film and propelled the movie forward now and again.

4. No one expected this movie to be a hit.

Despite being a film with its own unique feel and something new, a lot of people just looked at it like another romance.

3. The director’s mother has one iconic line in the movie.

The line “I’ll have what she’s having” is voiced by the director’s mother, and is still popular today.

2. Crystal’s part is based upon the director’s life.

Sometime’s going off the life experience of another person can be a great way to manage a movie, but it definitely needs help from time to time.

1. The writer was never fond of the title.

She went on to state that if she could change one thing about the movie that it would be the title since she never really liked it.

If you’d like to enjoy a good romance film and need a good laugh at the same time this would be the film for you.
