It’s been a few years since the release of the second installment of the movies. Sex and the City 2 was released in 2010, and since then, fans have been clamoring for a third movie. When the TV series ended in 2004 after 6 seasons, fans looked forward to a movie adaptation, which took another 4 years before it happened and another two years for the sequel. Either way, the shows and movies have a steady and strong fan following and many are disappointed to hear that there definitely won’t be a third Sex in the City movie anytime soon–probably not ever.
The announcements came from some of the stars themselves. Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays the main character on the show Carrie Bradshaw, says she is disappointed with the development, not only for herself but also for the fans. She claims that they’ve actually gotten as far as developing a beautiful story and script, and to have to abandon it all is heartbreaking. The fact that the story of Bradshaw and her friends could essentially continue on and on and on is not lost to the fans, who just want more of it. But of course, we can’t always get what we want.
Actress Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte in both the series and the films, also expresses her disappointment at the failed venture. She also cites that the story written by the series creator Michael Patrick King was also a beautiful way to finish the final chapter of the girls’ stories. She expressed her heartfelt thanks to all the fans that have followed her and her character throughout the years.
One actress that’s probably happy the film isn’t going to happen is Kim Cattrall. Kim played the role of feisty Samantha in both the series and the movie as well. Everyone knew the rumors about tensions among the cast of the show that probably eventually ended the series. The rumors mostly pointed to Cattrall being unhappy, and it seems as if the rumors about the reason for the cancellation of the third movie is surrounding Cattrall as well. An online outlet reported news that Cattrall was making outrageous demands, which eventually caused the project to be cancelled. Cattrall has since denied the claims and restated the fact that she didn’t want a third film from the start. Fans have supported her claim, stating that the second movie was not the best, and that all the stars of the show have since gone on to better ventures.
Cattrall made a point about the show not being relevant anymore. It has been almost 20 years since the first episode of Sex and the City was aired. A lot has changed since then, and we’d expect that the girls from the show should’ve moved on in their lives also. It’ll be difficult to see them all in the same light, and it might not even be worth it, really. Many still question whether they should’ve made a movie out of the series to begin with, instead of keeping the girls forever in 2004, just as we should always picture them to be.
