This film gives a very unique look at the afterlife and what people would no doubt like to think it’s actually like. When you really think about it the truth is that humanity does in fact fear a great deal throughout their average day and many people refuse to face up to those fears in order to move on with their lives. The part about only using a small percentage of our brains doesn’t seem right, but it would still go a long way towards explaining why people seem so afraid to just stand up and move on.
When Daniel dies and is sent to the afterlife he is still very much afraid. The basic human reaction to anything that is not understood is fear or uncertainty, or both. That unfortunately is why some people simply do not grow as individuals. There is also the belief system that has been instilled for countless generations that if we act in one way but not another then there will be severe repercussions for that action. In other words, we are afraid to act on impulses because we know that there will be dire consequences.
Fear is a constant in our lives, it can either sharpen our reactions to the world around us or it can hamper us in many different ways. Allowing it to rule our lives limits our potential however and, as is shown in the movie, can only make us regress to the point that we are forced to start over and over again until we learn that fear should not be allowed to rule our lives.
The movie also makes a good case for reincarnation as a means of try, try again until you get it right. Ever notice how some people seem to just know how to do things instinctively? They don’t require any formal training, they don’t even need to practice, they just know how to do something in a manner that others just can’t understand. Whatever it is they excel at, it simply makes sense to them. That was one great point that seems to come from this movie, and can be attributed to the act of being reincarnated. In the film this is done to give the person another chance at life so that they might be able to better understand how to push past their fears and live a truly enlightened existence, but in reality it makes a great deal of sense.
Then there comes the act of defending one’s life. None of us are perfect obviously and all of us hide at least one or more things of our lives out of fear of what others would think. Those that don’t and are completely open are blessed in a way that, good or bad, because they can easily defend or at least explain their actions without fear that they will be judged in a way that is not unbiased. They are stronger because they can defend what they’ve done without having to justify certain things in their lives.
The film is a deeper and more rational look at something that no one really understands yet, but would desperately like to know more about.
