Stranger Things Gets a New Theme Song Sung by Natasha Bedingfield

Stranger Things Season 2

I love Stranger Things, I love Natasha Bedingfield’s songs and voice, but THEY DO NOT GO TOGETHER. It’s like trying to add pickles to a peanut butter sandwich. Unless you’re crazy or a pregnant lady, no offense, it just doesn’t work. The whole 1990’s feel that’s given to the trailer is enough to make a person roll their eyes and wonder just what the people at Honest Trailers are really thinking. It’s cute if you like that I suppose but it’s essentially taking a couple of things people love and mashing them together just for the novelty of it.

Great, if you like it. But if you don’t then it’s a little bit, NO.

Yeah, you read that right, a little bit no.

Stranger Things doesn’t have the same feel as 1990’s sitcoms like Friends or Wings or Full House, and it wasn’t meant to. If people in those shows had a problem they got it solved in a half hour period of time In Stranger Things the problems just keep mounting in Hawkins without a definite end in sight and they’re not cutesy or easy to solve by any means.

That’s not to say that it’s not a quirky, funny video. Seeing the cast of Stranger Things depicted to the sound of Natasha Bedingfield is kind of amusing until you get to the points that have zero feel of the sitcoms that such songs would be made for. Like say, Hopper’s end table with prescription pills lying scattered about. Or how about the slug coming out of the poor victim’s mouth? Yeah, those images don’t conjure up a lot of happy, joyful feelings. Uncle Joey and Uncle Jesse aren’t gonna come running to sort this mess out and Rachel, Ross, Chandler, Joey, Monica, and Phoebe certainly aren’t going to pop in with their amusing anecdotes and one-liners to save the day.

Truth be told the entire lot of them would be hightailing it as fast and as far as their feet could take them if they entered Hawkins. The sitcom feel doesn’t work in this largely because 1)It’s a horror-based show, 2)It’s based in a very small, kind of rural area that a lot of sitcom characters wouldn’t ever set foot in, and 3)If those characters ever saw Demogorgon or the weird stuff going down in Hawkins they’d likely soil themselves.

I’ll give props to Natasha for doing the bit because really she does have a beautiful voice. It’s been a while since she’s really been heard on the scene but when she does spring up occasionally it’s usually with something that’s quite interesting and gets a good deal of attention. I just kind of wish it would have been for something else this time.

Seriously, Stranger Things has been getting so much attention that this one could have just flown under the radar and been just fine. It would have been a quirky bit of something that was connected to the show and that could have been the end of it. Maybe it will be anyway.
