The film industry has a long history and tradition of holding festivals that celebrate new and old films, indie productions and more. There is a pretty impressive list of film festivals, but somehow, despite having a massive impact on Hollywood revenue, the television industry has been left of out of major festivals that could promote television programming. Well, all of that is about to change. According to sources within Tribeca Enterprises, the entity responsible for launching the Tribeca Film Festival, there will now be a Tribeca TV Festival – with the first annual festival being launch this September.
The festival is slated to run during the final week of September, from the 22nd to the 24th, and it will be held in New York City, of course. The festival will be a platform with dichotomous purpose, spotlighting new premieres that are scheduled to hit the seasonal calendar within the year, such as ABC’s Ten Days in the Valley and truTV’s At Home with Amy Sedaris. Additionally, the festival will also give fans a sneak peek into future seasons of existing programming.
An additional element that attendees will be able to enjoy during the festival is live conversations with actors, comedians and other talents that will make up the programming for networks in the coming year. These conversations will be broadcast on huge screens for everyone to see. This will truly be an engaging experience, to say the least. If you have ever had the pleasure of attending the Tribeca Film Festival, you kind of have an idea of just how huge this will be.
To add the icing to the cake, in case you have not heard, Will & Grace is returning to the television for a new season which will be starting right after the festival on September 28.
The will be a number of shows spotlighted during the festival like At Home with Amy Sedaris, which will present the phenomenal comic in a new light – that of homemaker and host. Let it be told, Amy is an exceptional homemaker and she really knows how to entertain those who visit her home. This will be an entirely new take on the star, as a part of the presentation during the festival, Andy Cohen will interview the creator of the show, Paul Dinello, in order to discuss how he developed this highly unique concept.
There will also be a feature on the FX series, Better Things, a comedy-drama that focuses on a working actress and single mother of three. This show has been classified by critics as being hilarious and yet well-grounded, making it an ideal fit for a wide range of viewers. There will also be features on Designated Survivor, Gotham, Liar, Red Oaks, Look but with love and more.
If you are worried about how some of the more well-publicized television dramas will be represented, don’t be. The shows like Queen Sugar, Ten Days in the Valley, Power and more will be spotlighted and many of the stars will be there to help promote their shows. For the first time, television viewers will be able to attend an event in which many of their favorite TV stars will be in attendance providing the juicy information on what is coming next on their show. This is definitely a festival that television viewers will want to keep up with.
