The Ending to ‘The Dark Knight’ Overlaid with Batman: The Animated Series

Sometimes it would be nice if  the animation could keep up with the actual dialogue, but in truth that is a lot more drawing, a lot more work, and a lot more money. Still the effect is nice when you think about the correlation between the animated series and the live action movie. The animated series has been running so long that remembering a time when it wasn’t here is becoming a bit hazy really, but that being said I can still recall when [easyazon_link identifier=”B003XGB80E” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Batman[/easyazon_link] was all about the BAM and POW signs that came across the screen when he and Robin were laying into the villains. Ah, the memories.

But nowadays Batman is a lot more complicated than he’s ever been before. His back story has always been one of the more tragic. But since it’s reveal throughout the history the character it’s also been changing subtly as movies, cartoons, and various other plot lines have become involved.

At one point his parents were killed by a criminal named Joe Chill.

This is the story that was used in the Christian Bale version of Batman, and the one that is likely the most faithful to the comics thus far. In the version of Batman that Micheal Keaton starred in the man that killed their parents was none other than the same man who would later on become the Joker. This kind of ruined the whole mythos of [easyazon_link identifier=”B00NZAVJC0″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]the Joker[/easyazon_link], who has always been one of Batman’s most notorious villains. Leaving Joe Chill in as the lone gunman that eliminated Thomas and Martha Wayne felt a little more right to most fans and set up the movies in a much more faithful manner, at least to start with.

Harvey Dent has always been strictly for Gotham.

Where [easyazon_link identifier=”B00U382J8A” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Batman[/easyazon_link] cares for Gotham but will take justice into his own hands, [easyazon_link identifier=”B0035E8UXM” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Harvey Dent[/easyazon_link] always wanted the criminals put away but in the manner that the judicial system allowed. He knew the tricks and the ins and outs, but he also knew how to work them in order to get justice and stay relatively clean. Once he became Two-Face he still knew all the tricks, but he no longer cared about justice. The supposed white knight of Gotham became the demented demon that knew all of the city’s darkest secrets, and as such was one of Gotham’s worst nightmares. The Joker had something to do with this in the movie, but in the comics a lot of Harvey’s psychosis was his own doing.

The Batman and law enforcement have rarely gotten along.

Cops don’t tend to like it when someone else does their job for them, and who can blame them? The Batman has made them look inefficient and even ignorant many times over during his tenure. But if you look at it this way, Batman is doing what we would all like to do but lack the courage or the means for. Being a billionaire playboy affords a lot of leeway towards what you can do in your spare time.

In the end Batman might love [easyazon_link identifier=”B00XKJNYCE” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Gotham[/easyazon_link], but he can take the abuse he will receive as Batman largely because he has something to go back to. Bruce Wayne has a life outside of being a crime fighter, which means he won’t be hurting if the authorities are actively trying to hunt him down. With his intelligence and his money all he has to do is keep giving them a nudge in the wrong direction and he’ll be free to do what he wants.
