The [easyazon_link identifier=”B00N1JQ3RQ” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Guardians of the Galaxy[/easyazon_link] is on a roll. A lot of fans were skeptical when the first installment came out largely because it was not focused upon the original Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel comics. If you don’t believe me then by all means go back in history and you won’t find the group of this era as the Guardians, you’ll find a completely different crew. I’ll go into that in greater detail in a moment, but for now just entertain the thought that at one point Gamorra was in league with Thanos, Drax was little better than an all-powerful dimwit, and the rest of the crew, aside from [easyazon_link identifier=”B00N1EJXUU” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Groot[/easyazon_link], were not even thought up until the 1970’s. That’s right, original guardians, and Groot, were released in the 1960’s, and the team was a LOT different then.
Why is this relevant? You’ll see in a second.
So far only two of the original Guardians have been revealed in the films.
One of the only founding members of the original Guardians is now dead. Yondu was one of the original Guardians from the 60’s along several others, including a human astronaut named Vance Astrovik. He and [easyazon_link identifier=”1631403974″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Star Hawk[/easyazon_link] were actually two of the only ones that have so far had any real presence in the films. If you look closely you can probably pick out a couple more but they’re used as background and are easily forgotten.
In the third Guardians movie the director is already hinting that someone is going to die and the team is going to be shaken up. Keep in mind the reason he might be saying this is that Avengers: Infinity War is going to mean A LOT of things for the MCU. [easyazon_link identifier=”B0009UBS2K” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Thanos[/easyazon_link] after all is not interest in keeping the status quo in the comics, which should mean that in the movies the directors should be taking this into account.
Starhawk could be seeing a much bigger role in the next film.
Given that he’s already been introduced and even given a character arc, of sorts, it’s feasible that Starhawk will be coming into a much larger role. Depending on who dies it will be left up to the director to see how the Guardians will be formed for the third movie. We already know Yondu is out unless someone with the crazy idea of time travel or resurrection, it’s not uncommon in the MCU, could possibly find a way to reasonably bring him back. It seems safe to say though that [easyazon_link identifier=”B01IT7UT9M” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Yondu[/easyazon_link] is going to stay dead and that those guardians that survive will keep the team in one piece.
So really what we’re hearing thus far is that all of the current Guardians should be surviving, but we’ll see what pans out after Avenger: Infinity War. It could be a giant tease that they all survive or it could be real. The deciding factor of course is going to be what the director figures is good for the movie. In all truthfulness it would be nice to see the original core group, but let’s not hold our breath.
