So before you get to reading just know that I’ll Stand By You isn’t on this list. I know that a lot of people probably think of this song when they think of the Pretenders, but it’s simply too easy. But the Pretenders had a lot more hits than this and have been featured in a host of movies and TV shows that have utilized a great many tracks that they’ve laid down over the years. So it seems best to really show the talent that made them such a great band by displaying their many hits instead of the one.
Here’s a few of the films that their music has made an appearance in over the years.
5. Stop Your Sobbing – Reign Over Me
9/11 was a horrible time for so many people. Families were torn apart, loved ones were lost, and the victims that remained behind were left shattered and broken in so many ways that recover is still happening to this day for some. Sandler’s character was so devastated by the loss of his family that he actually forgot people from his past and became an irrational and emotional mess, unable to do anything other than relive that horrible moment when he lost everything he held dear.
4. Goodbye to You – G.I. Jane
Who says a woman can’t do what a man can? G.I. Jane is a story about a woman that isn’t desperate to prove herself, but she is determined. Women being in the military has been a huge issue for many years. While it’s starting to become less of an issue and more acceptable, it’s also presenting more and more hurdles to the female population that would like to serve their country as is their right.
3. Forever Young – With Honors
Too many people believe that college is all about getting good grades, turning in papers that are by the book and somehow outside of the box no matter that the student doesn’t seem to recognize that the box is far larger than they thought. Real education isn’t what’s learned just in the classroom. It’s what is learned in life, and the many lessons that go along with the formal education that so many value. If you don’t have one or the other you won’t be as complete a person as you can be.
2. I’m Not In Love – Indecent Proposal
Money can’t buy everything, no matter what the super wealthy decide to believe. Of course, if the asking price is taken then this statement has been made completely false. Thankfully there are those that do not have a price. But for those that make the horrid decision to put a price on what they feel for another there is nothing left to do but try to cash in and then try to save what should have remained essentially priceless.
1. Goin’ Back – Fever Pitch
It’s not generally recommended to try to come between a diehard fan and their love of a sport. For one, you won’t win an easy battle if you win at all. Two, if they’ve been with their team for so long driving a wedge in between them won’t be met with a grateful gesture. It’s more likely that they’ll cut you out of their life altogether. What you need to do is at least try and go with the flow for a bit, and perhaps make a compromise that’s a little more appealing than a simple break from what they know.
The Pretenders have been rocking the music industry for decades and they are still active to this day. Their sound is pretty distinctive and always welcome in most venues.
