While there are many Americans who are completely oblivious to the existence of Anupam Kher – knowing even less about his massive celebrity in Bollywood – this has not stopped the world for celebrating the celebrity in a massive way. Even those who are aware of this actor and the work that he has done are probably not cognizant of just how much of an impact he has had on film and the world of acting outside of the influence of Hollywood. It is easy for Americans to forget that a world outside of Hollywood exists and it is much more influential that many inside Hollywood would want to admit.

1. He Has Appeared in More than 500 Films
Just because an actor is not getting high billing in Hollywood or Broadway does not mean that he is not working and having an impact on the world in which he resides. It is important for Americans to realize that most developed countries have their own film industry, so everything that is on televisions and movie screens around the world is not coming out of Hollywood. With Anupam starring in more than 500 films, he is one of the biggest Indian-born celebrities in the world.
2. Las Vegas Dedicated a Day to the Star
In 2015, The city of Las Vegas, Nevada decided to celebrate the influence of Anupam by declaring September 10th as Anupam Kher day. Although this will probably not register on the scale of impact and importance for many Americans, there is a great deal of significance associated with the fact that a city that is no stranger to some of the biggest stars in the world considered Anupam important enough to have his on “day” in the city.
3. He Has American Appeal
One should not make the assumption that because Anupam has received critical acclaim for his work outside of the Western hemisphere that he has not made his presence felt here. The truth is that he has a long list of accolades that acknowledge his impact in the West. He appeared in the Golden Globe-nominated film, Bend It Like Beckham and the Oscar-winning film by David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook. There is no denying the fact that Anupam has a stellar resume.
4. He is the Man in India
As you can imagine, Anupam is literally the man in his native India. With a substantial part of his work being invested in appearances in Hindi films, it should come as no surprise that he has held the position of chairman of Central Board of Film Certification and India’s National School of Drama. He has been honored in the private sector and by the Indian government for his influence in the entertainment industry and the Indian community in general.
5. His Wife is No Slouch
As impressive as Anupam is, he may be able to make the claim that he married up. Not only is his wife, Kirron Kher, a respected actress in her own right, but she is also a member of the Indian parliament. In a country that has been notorious for ignoring the rights of its female population, the fact that Kirron sits on parliament is a testament to her courage and influence. It appears that both, Anupam and Kirron have set a pretty high standard for the next generation of actors/actresses and philanthropist to follow.
