Anyone who has seen the 2017 Oscars knows that beards are the latest trend for men in Hollywood. And we can expect more bearded hotties, like Idris Elba “The Gunslinger” to grace the big screen with their signature facial hair style. Many men who appear cleanly shaven on screen grow a beard on their own time and show up at awards shows with a whole new interesting look. But what about TV? Okay so there’s Duck Dynasty and all but I’m not talking scraggly hillbilly beards. The best beards on TV characters are those whose beards enhance their face, not totally hide it. There are men on continuing series whose beards are as much a part of their character as any trait they possess.
Here are some of the coolest guys on TV who sport beards as part of their iconic image.
Harvey Bullock (Gotham)
As Det. Harvey Bullock on FOX’s “Gotham” Irish-born actor Donal Logue has it all. A convincing Gotham metro accent, a crumpled cop look that includes a well-worn fedora and a fuzzy wuzzy beard that adds to his hard-boiled bearish detective look. Women want to hug him and villains who laugh at him for his old-fashioned copper look learn quickly that behind his sense of humor, Harvey means business. He has no lack of lady informants on the street, no doubt, partly due to his bearded charm.
Cole Lockhart (The Affair )
For those SHOWTIME viewers who are wondering why in the world Allison chose older married guy Noah Solloway over Pacey Witter, whoops, I mean, Cole Lockhart. Joshua Jackson never looked so good. His manly fisherman’s beard and sad expressions make some women tune in just to commiserate with him. Sure, Dominic West is handsome, but Cole is perfect for Allison. Why does she not see that!
Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
You can tell when Tyrion is on the run or in a fix, he lets his facial hair grow, and wow, what a beard! Peter Dinklage has quite a female fan following and as much as we love seeing him well groomed and dressed in royal garb, the craggy, devil may care look suits him!
Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead)
Okay, Rick has had some hard time all through the show, but he tried to keep up his manscaping more or less. Then as things got even rawer for the survivors and time went by he gave up trying to raid a pharmacy for razors. Yes, there are other impressive beards on the show, like Jesus, King Ezekiel and of course Daryl’s little patch, but Rick’s seems to reflect his total break with “Days Gone By”. Yes, Andrew Lincoln looked great clean shaven in “Love Actually” and “Wuthering Heights” but the beard fits this role just like his unique pronunciation of “CAURRRL”
Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer)
How could Lucifer not have a beard? It’s very metrosexual and goes perfectly with this devil’s mysterious yet oh so modern image. Some guys like Tom Ellis just look awesome with a beard.
