Why The Walking Dead Should Make Season 8 Its Last

No one show has created more die hard fans than AMC’s The Walking Dead. From the time that Rick woke up wearing a hospital gown, we were entranced by this brilliant series from Robert Kirkman. Those who followed the comics of the same name rejoiced and compared scene to scene, character to character, and those who never heard of “The Walking Dead” were entranced by this apocalyptic vision of zombies, heroes, and mad hatters walking around in the guise of survivors. Seven seasons have gone by, we know (spoiler alert) that Glenn is dead and that Negan is the new “big bad” that needs to be vanquished. How long can this series last? Well, probably as long as the fans want it to; however, there are some very good reasons why Season 8 should include the series finale.

The Zombies Are Pretty Lame Now

An attack by a herd of “walkers” used to be terrifying. Now, the group takes them out like they are just a minor annoyance. Whether all of the survivors now have ninja skills or the zombies are just getting slower, one thing is for certain–the “walkers’ are looking a little bedraggled and decayed. How long can they keep on walkin’? Since there are so few survivors left, even their eventual deaths will not replenish the population to be what it once was, like when the invaded Hershel’s farm. Let’s face it–the title characters of the series, the actual “walking dead” are looking a bit bedraggled and don’t pose much of a threat. They are used as gate guards and also a booby trap by savvy survivors like Sasha, who thought to become one herself so she could give Negan’s people one hell of a surprise. The zombie threat on its own seems well under control.

Rick Can Only Do So Much

He’s looking pretty broken lately as if he wasn’t on the verge of a total breakdown before. He’s seen too much, done too much. Perhaps there could be a sequel to TWD titled “Rick and Michonne Happily Ever After” as we hope this cool couple gets a chance to have a somewhat ordinary life. Neganhas whipped and shamed him several times, how much worse can it get? Was he really going to cut off Carl’s arm? The guy needs a rest.

How Much More Does Kirkman Have in Him

Robert Kirkman is an absolute genius, but how much longer does he want to keep writing this stuff? How many great characters can he come up with in time for the next season? There’s plenty of material in what he has already published but it’s doubtful that he wants to become the James Patterson of horror material. So far so good but perhaps he would like to work on something else? Can he, like Rick, keep going on this quest forever? Why not let the show go on a high note with the fans still wanting more? He could publish new comics from time to time and still have a huge fan base.

Babies R’ Us On the Run

Judith is hardly ever seen and never heard on the show anymore, although her birth was a pivotal plot point on the show. She was killed off earlier in the comic series, but no one wants to see her, or Maggie’s baby face any real threats. We’re still reeling from Glenn and Abraham’s gruesome death.

Running Out of Gas

Gasoline evaporates so there are only many trips to the gallon. Will they all find a warehouse full of bicycles and go from there? All of the horses have either fled to the hills or have become walker food, so life with modern conveniences such as fuel has an expiration date. Unless they can make their own corn petrol or something. There’s a job for Eugene!

We Had the Perfect Ending

That dream sequence when they were all sitting around the table in the sunshine sharing a meal is epic. Add a few more recent characters and you have the last scene for the finale. It’s how we would like to remember these brave survivors in our hearts.
