Timothy Richard Heidecker is an American comedian who has served as an actor, director, writer, and musician from time to time. In main, he is known as one of the two men who make up the comedic duo Tim & Eric, with the other man being Eric Wareheim. However, it is important to note that Heidecker has undertaken a wide range of projects over the course of his career, including some that have received a fair amount of praise.
Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Tim Heidecker:
Got His Start on Adult Swim
Heidecker started out as the co-creator, writer, and star of Tom Goes to the Mayor alongside Wareheim. In brief, the duo convinced comedian Bob Odenkirk to act as the executive producer of the series by showing one of its earlier forms to him. After which, Odenkirk managed to sell the series to the Adult Swim channel, where it ran from November of 2004 to September of 2006. Like its name states, each episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor saw the titular Tom bringing one of his ideas to the titular Mayor, who leaves Tom worse than when he started out by causing most of them to fail.
Behind Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie
Tim and Eric continued to collaborate with the Adult Swim channel. In time, their efforts led to Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie in 2012, which was not made with Adult Swim’s involvement but did have the assistance of numerous cast and crew members who had worked with them on their previous projects with the channel. The movie was neither a critical nor a commercial success, as shown by the fact that it earned no more than $223,580 at the box office in spite of its $3 million budget.
Directed Old Spice Commercials
At one point, Heidecker and Wareheim directed a number of Old Spice commercials featuring Terry Crews, who is famous for his athletic physique as well as his character comedy. As a result, the commercials were quite memorable, though perhaps not as much as those starring Isaiah Mustafa.
Parody Campaign Jingle
In 2012, Heidecker released a parody campaign jingle for Herman Cain called “Cain Train.” Afterwards, he went on to create a full album of nine songs called Cainthology: Songs in the Key of Cain, which was priced at $9.99 as an intentional reference to the presidential candidate’s 9-9-9 financial plan. Furthermore, Heidecker proceeded to donate all of the proceeds from the album sales to the Violence Intervention Program, which exists to provide a wide range of support services to victims of violence.
Got Stabbed While Helping a Neighbor
Heidecker’s Good Samaritan tendencies can be seen in another incident when he attempted to assist his neighbor, who was in the throes of a full, drug-induced mental breakdown. As a result, he was stabbed twice in the upper back, but fortunately for everyone involved in the incident, neither of the stab wounds were life-threatening.
