Five Things You Didn’t Know about Jinder Mahal

Fans of Jinder Mahal know that he stunned audience after defeating Randy Orton on May 21st on WWE SmackDown. His defeat of Sami Zayn, Mojo Rawley, Luke Harper, Dolph Ziggler and Erick Rowan initially him in the position to move onto facing Randy Orton for the World Championship and Mahal delivered a stunning defeat. He’s made some fairly impressive ripples in his corner of the world, but how much is really known about him?

Here are five things that you didn’t know about Jinder Mahal.

1. His real name isn’t Jinder Mahal

That’s right. Jinder Mahal’s was born Yuvraj Singh Dhesi. The young wrestler is 30 years old. His recent victory in the six-pack challenge earned him the distinction of being the youngest person in the history of the sport to do so. Kudos to Jinder for his accomplishment thus far.  And now it seems that the success of WWE Smackdown hinges on Mahal’s ability to draw in a crowd.

2. Mahal is Canadian

The star of Smackdown Live is from the country of Canada, our near neighbor. He was Born in Calgary, Alberta. He joins the likes of fellow countrymen Chris Jericho, Tyler Breeze, Sami Zahn, Tye Dillinger, Kevin Owens and others who are Canadian born.

3. Other family members are former WWF wrestlers

Jinder Mahal isn’t the first member of his family to become a professional wrestler. In fact, Former WWF Wrestler Gama Singh is his uncle. His uncle went by this wrestling name in the 1980s but his real name is Gadowar Singh Sahota. This was prior to the development and name change to WWE.

4. Jinder was let go from WWE for 2 years

Before he earned his current success, Jinder Mahal was hired in 2014 and then was released from his contract in 2016 He was accused of steroid use which he vehemently denied. Doping is a serious charge that has ruined the careers of many athletes. Jinder maintained his innocence and although we’re not privy to everything that transpired, he’s back so we’re assuming that there was no real basis for the charges.

5. Jinder may come off as a jerk, but there is a lot more to the man

When Jinder Mahal made his return it was all smack talking and rough and tumble. The truth of the matter is that in his private life he does not maintain the persona that he does for the ring. He has commented that he intends to show another side of himself in the near future. Because he’s a WWE superstar, we’re not sure if that means he’ll give us a glimpse of his true personality or a meaner version of his current persona. We’ll just have to wait and see.
