No, Robert De Niro isn’t making another Dirty Grandpa movie but can we just stop for a moment and admit that this was a hilarious movie? I mean come on! Sure it’s juvenile and sure it’s stupid but can you even imagine how much fun De Niro had making this film? Forget that, imagine getting to be Aubry Plaza or Zach Efron and you have the chance to work with an acting legend? Look, it’s gross and border line disgusting but the movie is awesome, period. I feel like the only reason it didn’t get good reviews is because people are so tightly wounded that they can’t just step back and enjoy something completely immature but awesome. I bring this up because De Niro’s back as a grandpa.
Here’s the synopsis according to Coming Soon
TWC-Dimension announced today that principal photography has begun in Atlanta, Georgia, on the family comedy The War with Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook, Raging Bull), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), Rob Riggle (How To Be A Latin Lover, True Memoirs of an International Assassin), Christopher Walken (Jersey Boys, Stepford Wives), and Cheech Marin (Machete, Grindhouse). Joining the already-announced cast are Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon), Jane Seymour (Sandy Wexler) and Faizon Love (Couple’s Retreat).
Peter (Oakes Fegley) and his Grandpa (Robert De Niro) used to be very close, but when Grandpa Jack moves in with the family, Peter is forced to give up his most prized possession, his bedroom. Peter will stop at nothing to get his room back, scheming with friends to devise a series of pranks to drive him out. But Grandpa doesn’t give up easily and before long, it’s an all out war! This coming-of-age family comedy is based on the bestselling book by Robert Kimmel Smith and is directed by Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hop).
Here’s my take. Why the heck not?
