It might surprise you to know that Christian Bale has no interest in playing a superhero ever again. Not only that, he’s never even watched a superhero movie apart from the ones he’s made and only one other film. To be honest this doesn’t surprise me in the least. There’s something about Christian Bale that makes this story completely believable. But the reality is that Christian Bale is one of the last superhero actors to premiere on the silver screen before the cinematic universe boom. He recently opened up and responded to whether or not he would take on another superhero role, saying:
No, I’m not interested in doing that. I’ve never seen — I’m trying to think if that’s correct, I think I’m actually correct, I can’t remember a single superhero film that I’ve ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve Superman films.
Being a superhero is a full-time job right now and Bale got in before all of this became so mainstream. And now his role as Batman will go down as the stuff of legends. I think Bale is smart enough to realize this so he’s going to let his legacy lie. But there’s one question he wasn’t asked and I’m curious to know what he answer would be.
Would he ever consider playing a superhero if Christoper Nolan were behind the camera? I think he’d have to think about that one.
