Shark Tank Company Profile: Apollo Peak is a Wine Brand for Cats and Dogs

If there’s one thing that Shark Tank has proven, it’s that you’ll never be able to tell if a product is going to get invested in or completely made fun of.  When I first took a look at Apollo Peak my initial impression is that this idea is going to get thrown out the window.  But after taking a closer look at what Brandon Zavala is doing, I’ve downgraded my recommendation to “I have no idea what’s going to happen.”  So what is Apollo Peak?  According to sources on the show:

Zavala started the business in 2015 with the goal of creating a “safe and fun alternative to hard snacks” for our four-legged friends. The company took off with a lot of solid search engine optimization and social media buzz. The company got its name from Zavala’s cat, Apollo, who disappeared for two years (presumably to learn wine making skills).

Apollo Peak isn’t alcoholic, it’s more like a tea for your pet. Ingredients include catnip and beet juice. With catchy names like “Pinot Meow” and “CharDOGnay,” they have a flavor for every pet. Prices range from five bucks for a 1.8 ounce tasting bottle to sixteen bucks for a 12 ounce bottle.

The product is available on the company website, Amazon, and at dozens of mom and pop pet stores around the USA. Zavala likely wants a Shark to help him get into big box retail. Will a Shark think this business is the cat’s meow?

Here’s the thing.  The reason I downgraded to “I have no idea” is because of how unbelievably huge the pet market is in the United States.  We’re talking a multi billion dollar industry that continues to grow every year.  People are absolutely obsessed with their dogs and cats. So much so that companies like Bark Box are thriving in the “sending out a monthly gift package to pets” business.  You just never know what a pet owner will be into.   And frankly since this target market might very well be women who drink wine, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apollo Peak could actually get a legitimate customer base.

Guess we’ll see……..
