Mindy Kaling’s character Dr. Mindy Lahiri gave a nice little reference to Senator Corey Booker on her show The Mindy Project. On the episode Mindy calls out the state of New Jersey but more specifically Newark. When things like that happen on television, you rarely if ever get a response from anyone. However, Corey Booker himself took to Twitter to write a playful response to Mindy’s Jersey dis. Ouch,” he wrote beside a broken-heart emoji. “Heard Dr. Lahiri dissed Newark last night.” Though he said he disagreed with her view, he wrote, “I still [heart] u!”
And so the “courting” began. Here’s the series of tweets between the two:

So no one is 100% sure if this is real but it sure seems real. We’ll only know tomorrow. My guess is that the two became followers on Twitter and DMed each other. If not, then this was a pretty fun gag. Either way, it’s pretty cool to see something go from a television shout out, to a Twitter reaction, to a little playful flirting, to actually setting up a date. Like I said, who knows how this will actually pan out but it would be a great story for their kids someday.
