Nicole Polizzi AKA “Snooki” Inspires Legislation Bill For University Speaker Fees

If there are two words you never thought you’d lump together in the same sentence it’s “Snooki” and “legislation.”  But here we are in the year 2017 and Nicole Polizzi has apparently inspired a bill that would limit public University speaking fees.   In her home state of New Jersey, if passed, the bill says that no more than $10 thousand of state money can pay speakers at New Jersey’s public universities.

John DiMaio a Republican Assemblyman says he was inspired to write the measure after Polizzi earned $32 thousand to speak at Rutgers University’s commencement in 2011. He believes its “ludicrous and wasteful” for state funds to pay for such speakers.

When I first got wind of this news I was actually pretty hopeful that Snooki would have turned down $32,000 and said, “I’m only accepting $10,000.”  Then that would be the story to inspire DiMaio.  However, I probably should have known better and realized that would have been in a parallel universe and that this was back in 2011.  I was ready to go on a rant about “if Snooki is influencing politics then what in God’s name am I doing today?”

But I can take a deep sigh of relief in knowing that this bill was created to spite The Jersey Shore star, not because of her.  Did anyone happen to catch Snooki’s interview at Rutgers?  If you were a school administrator would you have approved a $32,000 payment to Polizzi?  Here’s a video about said speech (and another video with part of the interview) so you can be the judge.  Do you think that Snooki could pass one class at Rutgers?
