In the latest video from Adam Savage’s Youtube channel “Tested,” he goes behind the scenes of the upcoming movie Ghost in the Shell. He paid another visit to the Weta Workshop where the minds behind the Robotic Geisha from Ghost in the Shell work. Savage gets up close with some of the practical props the effects studio made for the upcoming film. Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor shows Adam the mechanical geisha masks and animatronic puppets his team created, and how Weta Workshop used new fabrication and design technologies to make these props possible.
Of all the props that Savage takes a look at, the Robotic Geisha is the most prominent one. Not only is it lifelike but it’s awfully creepy don’t you think? Maybe it’s just me but the guys at Weta must have the most fun time doing their jobs. Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly difficult and I couldn’t do what they do if I tried, but you have to think that making these machines “come to life” has to be incredibly gratifying.
