Will Chicago P.D.’s Marina Squerciati Pregnancy Be Written in On-Screen?

Chicago P.D.

A Chicago P.D. baby is on its way, sort of. Before the latest episode, fans of the show were let in on a pretty big secret growing off-screen. Chicago P.D.‘s Marina Squerciati, who plays the newly promoted Officer Kim Burgess in Intelligence, is expecting her first child. Almost immediately speculation began on whether or not the show, and the entire Chicago franchise itself, would get to see one of its stars experience a pregnancy onscreen from beginning to end.

The short answer to this question is unfortunately, no. Due to the timing of Squerciati’s pregnancy, and the progression of her storyline on-screen, her character Kim Burgess will not discover a bun in the oven. Though it would be a good twist for Burgess given the recent return of her ex, and apparently current again, boyfriend Adam Ruzek. For Burgess herself, having a child in the first year after her promotion would not be ideal. Sergeant Voight may be okay with bending the rules a bit, but a couple in his unit expecting a child wouldn’t be ideal from a professional standpoint. Though no doubt that point will be revisited sometime in the future given there are two couples in the unit.

For Squerciatic, the timing of her pregnancy is just too perfectly lined with the network shooting schedule. Squerciati is due in April, which is around the time most network shows wrap up season production. The good news is that Chicago winters are cold enough to necessitate heavy coats and bullet-proof vests to cover Squerciati’s baby bump. Based on social media, the entire cast and crew of the Chicago franchise is overjoyed about a new member of the family. It’s going to be a great end to the season.

Congratulations to Marina Squerciati on her upcoming bundle of joy and her continued fine work on Chicago P.D.
