America’s Got Talent: First Seven Acts Makes it to Semi-Finals. Past Winners Return.

America's Got Talent

“The act going through to the semi-finals is…” words that every act that had performed last night wants to hear. It’s the first live show of season eleven of America’s Got Talent. Nerves are running high as the acts wait with baited breath that Nick Cannon will announce their name.

I was shocked to see Deadly Games, Hara and Lori Mae Hernandez in the bottom three. They all did a pretty good job last night. Deadly Games even channeled their inner Game of Thrones with their act. Lori Mae’s jokes last night, though repetitive regarding theme (poking fun at Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, etc.), brought a smile to my face. Hara’s magic was amazing as usual, with the well thought-out special effects and whathaveyou. The infamous Dunkin’ Save returns. Let’s hope that it can save a couple of acts.

This first results night also brought back two past winners of the competition. Ventriloquist Paul Zerdin from season ten and magician Mat Franco from season nine. I loved both of their performances. Zerdin did the same bit he did during the semi-finals last year, but it was hilarious nevertheless. His Simon Cowell impression needs a little work though, just saying. Mat Franco’s slight of hand was mind-blowing. I honestly don’t know how he made those cards appear out of thin air. That and the fact that he took a page out of Hara’s book and incorporated computer animation.

Now for the nail-biting results. The first seven acts that made it through to the semi-finals are Laura Bretan, for her killer Golden Buzzer worthy performance. The same for Jayna Brown, Tape Face also made it through despite the fact that his performance last night felt a bit off. Musicality made the cut as well as football player/magician Jon Dorenbos (yay!).

Lori Mae Hernandez and Deadly Games both got the Dunkin’ Save so they will be heading to the semi-finals along with the others. Hara, unfortunately, did not get saved, but maybe he will return as a Wild Card. Congratulations to all the acts and next week, more acts will perform for a spot in the semi-finals. They had better step it up for America if they want to get their votes.
