Anyone else have The Beatles’ “Yesterday” stuck in their head following this episode? It makes sense if you think about it. Nashville‘s residents are all giant mess at the moment, except for one character, who ironically is usually at the center of the drama. Can Juliette’s new start inspire her colleagues?
Now that Maddie is officially emancipated, Cash wastes no time in re-branding Maddie into her version of a star. Even Juliette is horrified that Maddie is being sold off like a trophy pony to the highest bidder. Juliette can’t change Maddie’s mind, but she can try to set Maddie on the right path. She loans Maddie her “lucky charm”, Glenn. Glenn is amazingly supportive, but when he did this with Juliette he wasn’t battling much opposition save for Juliette’s own self-destructive nature.
Rayna and Deacon are dealing with Maddie’s decision apart. Rayna doesn’t want to blame Deacon for what happened, but let’s face it, he screwed up. Deacon can’t do anything to help. He can’t even help his own situation since Frankie is taking possession of the bar. Seriously, what is up with this entitled, downright dirty family? It’s up to Rayna to take the reins on helping Maddie. Rayna gets word that a label dangerous for young artists is coming to Maddie’s showcase. She asks a personal favor from a friend at another label to take Maddie on. Cash once again interferes, insisting that Maddie leave Nashville altogether to get her away from Rayna’s influence. Seriously, can we throw this meddler in the gutter yet where she belongs?
Scarlett and Gunnar’s brief reunion was very short-lived. Fans, join me in a moment of silent frustration for this never-ending see-saw. Gunnar is also feeling pushed down and pushed out by the media who would rather set Scarlett at center stage. The relief Gunnar gets from his frustration is writing with Autumn. Scarlett takes this as it being okay for them to do their own things. How did they get pulled apart so fast?
Luke is facing horrible backlash from defending Will. Luke wants to stand up for what’s right, while Will is taking the stance that ignoring it will make it go away. As if Will hasn’t had a horrible enough week, he has to go home to bury his mother. We all remember how his father feels about him, but an old picture of Will and his mother hidden in her bible tells Will she cared. Will’s father really didn’t know what was in his wife’s head. He’ll probably never change his opinions, but he does make a small gesture of defending his son in his own home.
Juliette is still nursing heartache from Avery’s rejection. Tabloid pictures of Layla and Avery don’t help, but they at least get Juliette out of her wallowing mood. She gets dreary arm-candy for an Oscar Press Event, then runs into the real prince charming, her old co-star Noah West. On top of the fact that Noah is played by the charming Derek Hough, Noah made a lasting impression on Juliette for his kindness towards her during the early stages of her pregnancy. A dance turns into a night together which turns into Noah and Juliette deciding to give it a try. This may be the start of a great thing for Juliette, and the wake up call Avery needs that his ex is moving on. He definitely should have kept that option open since his current girlfriend is up to no good. Remember those tabloid pictures which were published just a little too easily? Looks like Layla is up to her old tricks to get attention.
If Rayna, Deacon, and even Juliette have failed at making Maddie see sense, is there anyone left who can?
