Last week left all Grey’s Anatomy fans on the edge of a very important question: Will Meredith Grey date again? As painful as it is, the time has come for Meredith and company to move forward. That doesn’t mean the road to new beginnings is a smooth ride, in fact it’s anything but.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Any Japril fans hoping that news of their baby would bring them together were sorely mistaken. Jackson is angry not just because April didn’t tell him she was pregnant, but because this isn’t the first time she has chosen to keep him in the dark. They went through the loss of a child, a divorce, and the whole time they were able to love each other and be civil. Now Jackson has reached his limit, getting into a screaming match with April in the middle of the workday. As great as it would be for him and April to be on the same page, they won’t be. In fact, this may be the most at odds they have ever been with each other.
Now there’s doubt Jackson needed to know the truth, but Arizona definitely should not have been the one to tell him. It was not her place, she was in the wrong, and Callie and Amelia were right that Arizona needs to accept that. Bailey goes one step further and reminds Arizona that what she did wasn’t just immoral, it was illegal. Arizona can’t justify or apologize her way out of losing April’s trust, she just needs to hope one day it can be rebuilt.
Alex is in charge of a triple-organ transplant. Inside the OR everyone can’t stop talking about Meredith’s date, while outside the OR DeLuca is losing his mind since everyone thinks he is sleeping with an attending to gain advantages in his career. He may have been the one who wanted to take things public, but now DeLuca just wants to go back to the way things were.
After months of conflict and tension, Owen and Riggs finally have a confrontation that resonates with Owen. Owen has been blaming Riggs for his sister Megan’s death, and Riggs has finally gotten tired of being Owen’s punching bag. Riggs tells Owen that he was the one who left the Middle East while Riggs stayed behind to look for Owen’s sister. Owen feels the weight of Riggs’s words, and does the dumbest thing he could’ve done. Never stock your fridge full of beer and go on a bender when your girlfriend is an alcoholic.
Meredith decides to take a leap of faith and accept Dr. Thorpe’s offer for drinks. Everyone is excited for her, and they also understand her apprehension. Picking up the pieces after losing your husband is no small thing. Maggie is a little too enthusiastic, so much so that it scares Meredith into canceling the date, just as Alex predicted. Eventually Alex tells Meredith that she should go through with the date, if only to get the awkwardness over with. All of this seems hopeful, but you know what they say about moving too fast…
