Scorpion Review: Agent Gallo’s captured and Paige has a new admirer.

Team Scorpion is already a tight-knit family, but what if a new member joins the team? Will the current members welcome him with open arms as they work together to bring down a black market antiquities seller in Djibouti, Africa? That’s what we shall find out in this week’s episode of Scorpion.

Agent Gallo arrived at the Homeland office in a brand new car, a change from his black SUV, and picked up his new trainee Tim Armstrong (guest star Scott Porter) before heading to the garage to brief the team on their newest case, which is to install an audio surveillance system at one of the military bases in Djibouti. It was later revealed that Agent Gallo’s new wheels belonged to Walter, who lent the vehicle to the Homeland agent. Maybe Agent Gallo’s SUV is in the shop?

After Team Scorpion arrived in Africa, they installed the audio surveillance system pretty quickly. Walter, after seeing Tim open the door for the female sergeant and Agent Gallo, decided to look into the former soldier and see if he is who he says he is. I was pretty much on the same page as Walter because Tim may as well be an undercover spy sent to gather intel on Team Scorpion and the U.S government.

Meanwhile, Tim and Agent Gallo found the location of where the stolen antiquities are stored. The two snuck into the room from beneath (how they managed to figure out which floorboards to pry open is beyond me) and Tim told Agent Gallo that they’re looking for a square box. When the box is opened to reveal an ancient clay bowl, it made me raise my eyebrow in complete disbelief that they would go through all this trouble for a bowl.

I mean, I get that Agent Gallo sacrificed himself to the two goons that worked for Copley, the lead black market antiquities dealer, after the latter shot at the fuel tank in the jeep that the former used to get him and Tim back to the base so that Tim can get away with the real bowl so a fake one can be made to replace the real one, but what’s so special about a bowl that people are willing to kill over? Perhaps it might be that old stuff are worth more than they were back in ancient times much like how paintings made by famous artists don’t rake in the cash until said artists have passed on.

I was amazed that the 3D printer at the base could be made to create the fake clay bowl. That and how Happy was able to fix the broken bowl (thanks to Sylvester after the human calculator freaked out when he saw a monkey in the window) with the clay powder used to make the bowl and a heated metal helmet. Oh, and the way that the team used the surveillance program to listen in on Agent Gallo’s situation as he’s being interrogated and beaten up was pretty cool too.

There were some predictable parts in this episode that made me go “I knew this was going to happen”. The first being the part where Tim said that he has a plan to stall Copley so that Happy and Sylvester can switch out the bowls. Looks like Ray Palmer and Kendra aren’t the only ones who are playing house.

When Copley asked Tim where he met Paige, Tim made up a story of how he met Paige at a cafe in Paris, which is spun from the moment when the former soldier first met Paige at the garage when she greeted him with a little bit of foam on her upper lip. I have a feeling that Walter is going to feel things that he hasn’t felt before but it’s not going to be good.

Another predictable part was when the SUV drove past a monkey as Team Scorpion made their escape, only to double back to the same monkey when another group of goons in another truck were heading toward them. I know it’s no laughing matter, but I was grinning like an idiot when I watched that particular scene.

The shocking part in this episode that made me gasp in horror was when Paige and Tim were making a run for the SUV when their cover was blown. The goons were shooting at Team Scorpion and one of the bullets hit Paige in her right shoulder, sending her into shock. At least, she wasn’t too injured as Tim’s jacket was bulletproof. Kudos to Tim for thinking ahead.

In the end, the fake bowl was sold to the real buyers which will lead to the dismantlement of Copley’s operation and Agent Gallo was saved from being beaten to death. Another notch in the victory belt for Team Scorpion! There was a tender moment between Tim and Paige as the former helped the team liaison with her bruise. Walter O’Brien, prepare yourself for some competition! On a side note, I think I will have the word “Djibouti” stuck in my head for a while.
