While The Revenant may not have taken home best picture, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar and it would appear that jokes about this movie trump jokes made about all the other best picture nominees. And last night on The Late Late Show, James Corden stepped it up a notch with the help of Martin Short. Corden and Martin Short co-starred in a screen-to-stage adaptation of The Revenant, re-imagining it as a gay musical. How exactly did they do this?
Well, instead of the traditional bear fight scene, they transform it into a borderline romantic scene. Instead of bear and man wanting to kill each other, they realize their internal struggle and instead of going to battle, it seems their forbidden desires want them to do something else.
Obviously the show wouldn’t go THAT far, however in order to profess their love, they do what all musicals do: break out into song. Corden’s “Inappropriate Musicals” also takes a stab at adapting fellow Oscar-winning films Goodfellas and Gladiator (the latter of which features a cameo by Arrested Development alum Will Arnett).
If you haven’t laughed yet today, the clip above will certainly get a rise out of you.
