The Voice: Our 5 Favorite Blake Shelton Songs

Blake Shelton

Growing up in the south (all right, all right, Florida) teaches you an appreciation for good old country music. While we love the classics, we also love the newbies. Blake Shelton is by no means a newbie to the business of singing country music, and that’s part of the reason we love him so much. One of the coaches on The Voice, bro-mance partner of Adam Levine and newly lucky boyfriend of the amazing Gwen Stefani, we just love Blake Shelton. He’s a breath of fresh air and a wonderful reminder that being from the country is something pretty special. He’s like Sunday dinner after church, a back yard BBQ and a late night by the fire drinking cold beer and listening to good music; he’s home. And that’s why we love his music. It’s not easy to pick five favorites, but we tried based on our current mood. Ask again tomorrow and we might change it up a bit.

God Gave Me You

Sure, this video is a bit awkward thanks to the presence of his now ex-wife, Miranda Lambert and the fact that this song may or may not have been writing about her and now he’s not. But, whatever; we love the song. It comes on and we dance, we sing along and we instantly feel good.

Boys Round Here

This is a song that sounds like summer around here. Where I live, we are less than 5 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and almost every weekend for six months is spent on the boat, in the sun, music playing, kids laughing and beers sitting in Yetis filled with ice. This song is one you hear coming from boat after boat when you pass by; it’s summer incarnate.

Ol Red

Listen, when you think of country music, you might think of something like this; a wife that leaves, a dead dog and an old truck. That’s what this song is. It’s all about the dog, it’s got the best wig (ever) in the video and it’s just a fun laid-back country ballad. It’s pure country, and it’s something that you can’t help but sing along to.

Sangria

A classic country song if there ever was one. A bit of a love song, but still country enough not to be sappy, it’s just a good song. Also, we really love sangria, so you name a song after it and we are going to love it to the end of the world and back.

Lonely Tonight

It’s a catchy, and that’s just what we have to say about it. When I hear this song, I start singing. It’s one of those songs that kind of encompasses the new way that people view their relationships these days. However, it’s still such a country song at the root.
