Welcome to another night in the ballroom! Last night on Dancing With the Stars, we saw the seven stars choose someone who influenced them in some way. It was also the night for the “Dance-Off,” in which two couples go head to head in a certain style of dance and America chooses the winner… somewhat. I’ll explain when I get there.
All of the dances last night on Dancing With the Stars were really good. Maybe some were not so good on technique, but I say if you can see the style of dance that it is, it should count for something. Also, when the lowest score is a 7, which is what Andy and Allison got, the dancers have to be doing something right.
Last night, Andy danced the waltz in honor of his mother, and when he lost it and started crying in his video package, so did I. It was a really sentimental dance. It wasn’t nice like Alex and Lindsay’s, but it was sweet. He kissed her on the forehead, for example, just like he would have done with his real mom. I knew that the judges weren’t going to give him a perfect score, but they should have! He ended up with a 24 .
Also, as mentioned, Alex and Lindsay had a great dance. He has this image of being a “hero” that he feels he has to live up to, but he already is in my opinion. He got a 25. Although, let me just point out one thing: the judges kept saying that his partner Lindsay played to his strengths and that she should’ve included this and that. I hope he wasn’t penalized for her mistakes. Julianne did say the dance was beautiful.
Finally, Nick and Sharna’s dance was amazing. Again, not that anyone’s dance wasn’t, but still, this was something special. Nick said his icon was his wife because of her strength and maturity. He also commented on how they have been trying to get pregnant and have finally succeeded after at least one failed attempt. First of all, I couldn’t take my eyes off the pair dancing. Carrie Ann said, “That was the best dance of their night.” Bruno commented, “That was a love poem perfectly visualized through dance, “and Julianne added, “You showed you’re a dancer.” They ended up getting a 33.
Carlos and Witney danced the salsa to a Marc Anthony song, where he pointed out he had never danced the salsa before. He got 29. Alexa and Mark did a David and Goliath take on the tango, which left both Julianne and Alexa enraged (she missed a step and they both saw it). However, Alexa was so intense! They got a 27.
Additionally, Bindi and Derek chose the foxtrot this week. Derek is worried how all of the articles are saying that Bindi’s the one to beat, because looking happy can be mistaken for making things look easy. In fact, they showed a picture of her foot and that was not a pretty picture! She got a 28. Finally, Val and Tamar also got a 28. He doesn’t like how the video packages are always making Tamar look arrogant when she’s not like that. This week, though, Bruno said,, “No distraction. Strictly paso doble. Pure down to the core.”
Next up, we had the dance offs. In this round, the highest scoring pairs choose another pair to dance off against. The second couple would then choose the style of dance that they wanted. They were seven teams so one of them had to sit out, and Nick and Sharna were given immunity because they the highest score of the night at that time. They also got three bonus points added to their score. The dance-offs went as followed:
- Bindi & Derek vs. Carlos & Witney: This was an interesting pairing. Instead of the usual “one couple choosing the other while that couple chooses the dance,” Bindi said she’d like to do the jive and asked who else wanted to do it. Carlos and Witney volunteered. Everyone talked about this. In the end, the judges unanimously chose Carlos and Witney as their winner while America chose Bindi and Derek. I guess America would be the deciding factor if they needed to be, but in this round they were not. Unfortunately for Bindi, Carlos got the two extra points.
- Tamar & Val vs. Alexa & Mark: As Bruno put it, they were two sexy mamas on the dance floor. What was interesting was that all of the judges commented that they were looking for different things, and this showed in their votes. Carrie Ann voted for Alexa and Mark, while Julianne and Bruno voted for Tamar and Val. When America chimed in with their vote, Alexa and Mark got the two points. Also, we voted 76% for Alexa and Mark? Wow!
- Andy & Allison vs. Alex & Lindsay: What was commented on was that neither couple had ever danced the samba before so this was almost like a trial by fire. Neither one was very good at it either. Two very different styles emerged. Alex’s was much more traditional, while Andy’s included a handflip and the worm. The judges did comment positively on Andy’s style of the dance, saying that next week he should do the samba with that type of energy! Andy and Allison got all of the judges’ votes as well as America’s vote and thus the two points.
Then, after announcing the two couples in jeopardy, the pair leaving the dance floor last night was Andy and Allison. He said it was fitting because he got in a tribute to his mom, which is why he was on the show to begin with. Nice parting words.
Here’s the scores as they stand now:
- Nick & Sharna- 33
- Carlos & Witney- 29
- Bindi & Derek- 28
- Val & Tamar- 28
- Alexa & Mark- 27
- Alex & Lindsay- 25
- Andy & Allison- 24
