Last night’s episode of The Bachelor was the ‘Women Tell All’ (sorry, #womentellall), and it had a lot of arguing in it. I wasn’t super into it for most of it, because the bits I haven’t enjoyed during this season are exactly what this episode is all about. For the first hour and twenty minutes, I did not enjoy my time. But when Kaitlyn went up to the hot seat, things changed.
I mentioned last episode that Kaitlyn has changed more than any other character on the show, and that change was evident during the hot seat. She was very firm in the way she portrayed things, and generally acted like a mature adult. She was unafraid of asking Chris his reasoning for letting her go (she didn’t go up to the front and hug him like Britt and Jade did), and didn’t really get emotional during the whole thing. I think more than anything that really points to who she is; had she been playing this up for reality television, she would’ve gone into extreme histrionics and made a scene. Or perhaps that’s just what I’m conditioned to believe. Either way.
Carly did not come off as very pleasant this episode. It was kind of strange to watch her repeatedly try to point out how fake Britt was when she was being fake to Britt’s face by pretending to be her friend. It was also really cool to see how vigorously Jillian defended Britt from those claims; as I’ve said before, my favorite thing about the show is the friendship’s the women made. Also, #Brillian.
Chris Soules handled the hot seat as well as he could, but he did come off as a bit of a jerk in some respects. He’s in an unfair position, obviously, being under the microscope with all of these different women, but he did screw up. Him sending Kaitlyn home the way he did is still unconscionable to me; why he takes Becca away only to bring her back makes no sense to me still, especially considering the emptiness of their conversation. Also, the idea that he wasn’t influenced by Carly to send Britt home is ludicrous; he has been susceptible to influence from women in the house the entire season. He totally bought into Kelsey’s schtick until she was outed by Ashley I, and only then did he send her home. He bought into the idea that Britt was lying to him all the time and sent her home because of it and either doesn’t realize it or can’t admit it. His explanation of him “seeing” things that he didn’t like along their journey is total, total crap; just the episode before he took her, on a whim, in front of the other girls, to a Brooks & Dunn concert and KISSED HER ON STAGE.
The best part, as you can imagine, was the bloopers. They were legit funny, all of them; the dog humping the toy on Whitney’s hometown date was especially hilarious. I can’t even imagine resetting after that and trying to be serious. I did not expect to enjoy the bloopers that much, but hey, I’m a sucker for those sorts of things.
Next week is The Bachelor finale, and it’s three hours long. The things I do for y’all.
Stray Thoughts
– BRILLIAN BRILLIAN BRILLIAN BRILLIAN BRILLIAN. I TOLD ALL OF YOU FROM THE START THEY ARE SOULMATES
– Jade deserved better than to be sent off the way she did, and this episode just hammers that point home even more.
– In a (not that) surprising bit of self-promotion, Chris Harrison revealed that he wrote a romance novel. There is a joke here, somewhere.
– It was good to see Jillian again. Her personality was really missed.
– It was not good to see Kelsey again. Her personality was frightening and made me unhappy.
