Day three into our five-part feature of “Five Arrow and Flash Spin-Off Mini-Series That We Want To See” and after having pitched two male team-up shows, there is a specific female trio in the DC Universe that we would love to see take shape through Arrow, especially since there were a few hints in a past episode last season: the Birds of Prey.
Pitch: A second take on DC Comics’ iconic female trio Birds of Prey with Dinah Laurel Lance/Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), and Helena Bertinelli/The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw) as some of Arrow‘s strongest females form a team to fight crime outside of Starling City.
Andy: I was never a big fan of WB’s old Birds of Prey TV show, but I have always digged the concept of this team and now that Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/Oracle is supposedly going to be on Titans, I don’t think we can then use her (although if the universes are connected, maybe then). However, we do have the Oracle concept exist already through Felicity Smoak, who could basically be that replacement within this version of Birds of Prey. Also, I would like to see more female-centric episodes of Arrow anyway, so it would be even better if you gave them a mini-series to be on where they are in the spotlight for eight episodes or so BEFORE they go back to Arrow when the show would return from its hiatus. Also, as someone who has been such a huge Huntress fan and wanted to see them give her a proper story, this could be a way to begin that redemption path that they hinted at in her last episode when she was arrested.
It would also allow the DC-CW universe to explore the world outside of Starling City and what you could even do with any of these ideas (both the ones we have revealed and will reveal later this week) is have them be on a single mission that is spread over eight episodes. Or possibly even have four episodes center on one mission and then a new one with the remaining four episodes. I definitely think that Birds of Prey is a concept that should be given a shot again after their first attempt back in the early 2000’s.
Blaise: Birds of Prey comes across as an interesting concept to me. My initial thought on the idea is that it could find tons of success for being an all-female superhero team, which is something that we don’t really see on television at all. Laurel as Black Canary has been amazing so far, and I have no doubt that she could easily carry the show along with Felicity, who is just as fun on Arrow. Andy and I mention the inclusion of The Huntress, which would be awesome, but I believe that the team could be taken one step further and go as far as adding Katana and even Thea as Speedy. This would really give them a nice diverse lineup and really make them a team with a great dynamic.
While the Birds of Prey are a nice idea, I wouldn’t know how to fit them into the DC TV Universe and have them operate in the same city unless a Justice League-type show were to be created, and Oliver, Arsenal, and Atom were out of the picture for Starling City. While I would love to watch it, it could still feel crammed and confusing from a universe perspective to see all these characters handling certain crimes. Overall, Birds of Prey would offer a new take on a superhero show by featuring all women, which is cool. I think a lot of people would tune in to see their favorite supporting ladies take the driver’s seat and be a butt-kicking group.
Come back tomorrow as we will give our next spin-off suggestion, but in the meantime, let us know in the comments below what you think. Would you like to see a second incarnation of the Birds of Prey with some of Arrow’s strong female characters?

A Birds of Prey tv show is one of the things I want most out of DC, but Laurel’s not enough like Black Canary to give the team a proper adaptation and Felicity is no replacement for Barbara Gordon Oracle. If Arrow could resurrect Sara for a spinoff, then send her to her own city for her own show (and create their own Barbara Gordon) it would work, but right now I have higher hopes for Titans to spinoff a Birds of Prey than Arrow.
Not too sure on how they would do a Birds of Prey spin off series with Jessica De Gouw (Huntress) working on Underground at the moment. Although I would not say no on them doing more spin off series. I like the idea of them have a DC series on every day of the week. Here is a thought.
